The Canadian air force has decayed to the point that most of its airplanes are grounded on any one day, the general in charge of air force operations told a Senate committee on Thursday. Maj.-Gen. Charlie Bouchard said one out of every three aircraft are available for duty most days, but the rate should be two out of every three.
â Å“Aging fleets, insufficient ... funding, shortage of spare parts, shortage of qualified technicians, limited numbers of aircrew, aging infrastructure and competing priorities all limit our ability provide support,â ? Bouchard said.
