I’ve said this before…Trump is dangerous and will do almost anything to have Canada at least as his lackey and preferably realize his Manifest Destiny dream of actually having Canada join the U.S. But now he is threatening to take back the Panama Canal, coming up with one excuse after another for doing so.

As if that’s not enough, he is once again pushing to annex Greenland. Even if some Americans and the vast majority of Canadians are against his sick need for domination, at least Der Fuhrer would probably understand. Trump would probably annex the rest of Mexico as well…except he doesn’t want all the Mexicans to go with it.

Sadly, you’re absolutely right. It’s time our leaders showed that they have the cajones to stand up to our neighbour to the south. Not saying we have to break off diplomatic relations or go to war with them (as if we could win it) but Canada should do a lot more to maintain its sovereignty.

You’re right on that. On the other hand Americans seem to be equally gullible to accept a strongman with a businessman’s hedge fund mentality who says he can fix everything. Our societies haven’t always been this way and they don’t have to be this way either. Get rid of the extremes, both left and right, and our future will be much brighter.

Trump is not an extremist. That is a false narrative. Look at his positions on abortion or anywhere else and you will see he is a centrist that puts America first.

Since the 60s, countries by choice or coercion, have taken US aid whether in the form of USD or military.

At worst Trump is cashing in on those investments, at best he's shaking the trees reminding countries of said US investments.

Problem is he says dumb crap without thinking it through.

Closing the Panama Canal, or rendering transit uninsurable, would not be hard for a motivated adversary to do. Imagine fiber optic FPV drones slamming into the bridge of US flagged or affiliated ships as they transit. Or mortar attacks on ships sitting in the locks.

Panama and Panamanians may not be able to hold the canal against a U.S. invasion, but they could render it unusable to U.S. shipping. If Trump sees this as a cost/benefit problem, which he likely does, any aggression against Panamanian sovereign control of the Canal could very easily be turned against him.

While I know he’s probably just beaking off again, this one was particularly immature and amateurish, and destabilizing towards global economic security.

Trump threatening the sovereignty of nations, destabilizing the global economy, walking back on treaties and obligations because "we're getting screwed" does not show the foresighorone needs when you're the leader of a G7 nation. I say the same of Trudeau, in that his actions were 100 percent based on hisbown vanity and not in the interests of Canada, global stability, or international security.
