But better yet you survived the Christmas rush and hopefully your daughter is still talking to you.I can’t find anything open source on my theory. Sorry.

Solved…I can’t find anything open source on my theory. Sorry.
Not for at least a decade.Even our Navy hasn't managed to do that.
Well if you're going to be picky ....Not for at least a decade.
There was a podcast this morning (that I have lost track of on youtube…grrr) that indicated that the F-18 that got smoked was on approach to recovery and the LSO witnessed the whole thing as Gettysburg launched two birds at them from 10NM astern.Latest news (Fox) indicate that it wasn't CIWS, but SM-2s fired at two F/A-18s. The second aircraft was able to avoid the missile. Those two aicrew are lucky to be alive.
I read that they punched out with 3.5s time to impact.Surviving an SM-2 hit is beyond lucky.
Again, beyond lucky that the LSO gave them enough warning.I read that they punched out with 3.5s time to impact.
Callsign BrownPantsSo do they get a new callsign now?
The fact that they were landing makes this more confusing. I can see a situation where a newly acquired radar contact (a launching aircraft) is miss idenfied as a theat. But an aircraft landing would (should?) have been properly ID'd for a long time up to that point. There was a podcast this morning (that I have lost track of on youtube…grrr) that indicated that the F-18 that got smoked was on approach to recovery and the LSO witnessed the whole thing as Gettysburg launched two birds at them from 10NM astern.

damn - not a good thing. There was a podcast this morning (that I have lost track of on youtube…grrr) that indicated that the F-18 that got smoked was on approach to recovery and the LSO witnessed the whole thing as Gettysburg launched two birds at them from 10NM astern.

If the second aircraft was shot at and missed I’d find that more than a bit concerning. An F-18 on landing approach oughn’t be a tough target. I’m very curious whether the second aircraft was in fact shot at.Latest news (Fox) indicate that it wasn't CIWS, but SM-2s fired at two F/A-18s. The second aircraft was able to avoid the missile. Those two aicrew are lucky to be alive.
