What are the rules for uniform wear for Honorary Colonels? We have a local weatherman who occasionally shows up on air wearing his uniform. I thought regulations forbid the wearing of the uniform while engaged in a commercial endeavour. On the other hand it could be argued his wearing of it on air promotes the service. Just what is the official party line?

Weird - I was just on the DSA site yesterday (Director Senior Appointments) trying to find out if my former unit still had the same HCol, since I found some pictures of her visiting us in the field and wanted to fwd them to the unit for her...While on the site I noticed this:

There is a "guide" for Honoraries here.

Quote -
Wearing of uniform when not on duty as part of the functions associated with the Honorary appointment is limited to attending a military entertainment or a ceremony at which the wearing of uniform is appropriate in accordance with Reference L.

Ref L is QR&O 17.06 - Wearing of Uniform.

So I suppose he is wrong, but it also could fall into his duties of promoting the CF in general.  If it's the same guy I'm thinking of, he was pretty proud of his appointment.  I would say he may be breaking the letter of the rule, but keeping the spirit of the rule?  He's not a private business person using the uniform to promote his personal business.
