All joking aside, "refer a friend" is a viable and successful recruiting vehicle. Recognizing that is a valuable incentive.

Now if they gave a medal or paycheck for streamlining the throughput in the training system so that all recruited personnel advance to trained DP1 status in a reasonable time ...

100%

Which is why retention, or amicable releases are so important. A cool new video can only make up for some of the negative word-of-mouth that gets out when people quit because the US Army, CAF, ADF, etc., treat people poorly.

'Bring a Buddy Night' used to be a very successful attraction event in the 90s. We would have simulated casualties, Ambs moving, a UMS setup, and then beer and pizza in the Mess. We got a lot of recruits through that initiative. Not sure if it would work now.

Why not? Different demographic (already more settled, buddies less likely to be at loose ends?) coming in?

I'm glad we don't have any useless bling. I'm sure we all cherish our various Monarchy Jubilee medals, to say nothing of the coveted Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM), which you get for having..... well, for having another PK medal. ;)
You're bang on everything except that last part.

The CPSM was created after "the UN Peacekeeper" won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1988. Seeing as the individual prize couldn't be presented to the millions of Canadians that did the actual leg work of peacekeeping, the CPSM is given as an additional honour to mission specific awards.

It looks like a "2 for 1" gimme situation, bit the symbolism and significance is much more than the nepotism and egostroking that accompanies the Jubilee honours.

Id say for a country that says it values PK so much the CPSM is a pretty important medal and signifier.
