V tech - Armour, occupational transfer

Hey all, I did a search but nothing came up, so I'm posting a couple of questions here.

I'm a QL4 Vehicle Tech, I've been in for about 3 years now, and I'm having a change of heart. My pride in the uniform has been chipped away by Service BN, and I no longer enjoy turning a wrench. What I do still love is tanks! Its hard to explain, but I get an elated feeling when stepping into a leopard, or ripping over that field in a Coyote, I'm sure some Armour guys can attest to this.

My question's are: should I act on this feeling and OT to Armour? I have my SQ course, so all I need is the 6 week MOC? Should I finish my QL5 course in Sept, then OT?

I know a couple of formal V techs who have done this, and they seem happy. So has anyone here gone through something similar?

-Thanks

You should find out first if Crewman is open for OT in and Veh Tech is open for OT out, and complete your QL5 first, that way you are eligible for a remuster. And if it doesn't work out then you are a fully qualified Veh Tech and you can go straight back to it. If you are in Edm then I think I know the Crewman you refer to. You might find life different after leaving the OJT cell, and progress to a Field posting, just ask for the Strats.

Thanks for the reply. Waiting until I'm fully qualified sounds like the best way to go  :salute:

It is, gives you more options. And then it also gives you a chance to see what the trade is all about, which an OJT cell doesn't. It just ensures that all areas of your 4's book get touched. Good luck.

Yes......  If you're not happy doing what you're doing, by all means transfer over.  I think the best way to look at it is have a look at what your Mcpl's and your Sgts do every day for their jobs and try to picture yourself in their shoes.  Is their jobs something you want to work hard and strive for?

Some people love being supporters and some people prefer it at the pointy end.....
Tango has some good advice......but keep in mind you don't need to have your 5's done.  Have a look at the CFAO's, in particular 11-12....it's all about the requirements for remustering.  Also look at your PSO's website on your bases DIN network.
To remuster, all you need is your QL4 and have 48 months continuous service( in the year you apply).
Good luck

I don't know if you guys know this or not, but as a QL4 veh tech we do 3 month rotations at different units for OJT. So basically we do the same work as a full QL5 corporal, without the respect and responsibilities. For me its been 18 months of that, and the only part I've enjoyed is recovery, mainly with the Leopard ARV. My point is that I have a good idea what a V tech Cpl, Mcpl and Sgt do, and its not something I want to do. I'll look up the CFAO's next week and confirm the requirements, but as it stands, after my 5s I'll be putting in a request for an OT.

Thanks for the help guys

I just checked the montly reassignment list and crewman is open for intake however Vtech is closed for transfer out.  Meaning you will need a waiver before being able to complete a voluntary reasingment or a VOT.

Also, here is the link to the montly reasingment list.

IAW CFAO 11-12, you will also need 48 months of service to be eligible to apply for a VOT.  Also, you will need to be complete of your QL4.

CFAO 11-12 is a good starting point for any remuster (Reg Frce NCM).  It spells out the minimum requirements for VOTs and the various VOT programs (COTP, AVOTP, and LOTP).

All trades are open for OT out, even if they are Red.  The difference is the % of the MOCs TES #  allowed to OT, known as the OUTCAP.

For green MOCs its 2%, for Amber MOCs its 1% and for Red MOCs its 0.5% of the TES for that FY.

Hence why you need better PER scores than the rest of the aplicants trying to OT out of your parent trade.
