I've used my years of training in a most productive way - I applied the Operational Planning Process, conducted a kick-ass estimate, wrote an awesome set of orders, and devised one mind-blowing Powerpoint presentation! Now, I know that when I release, I've got the ideal corner picked out in the Byward Market to try and wash car windows for spare change!

I even have a COIN strategy to deal with any miserable smack junkie who tries to squeeze in on my street corner!

Toronto – While attending Canada Company’s inaugural Military Employment Transition (MET) Program Conference, the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, congratulated Bob Hakeem, Executive Vice-President of Human Resources for Walmart Canada, on the launch of the company’s Ex Military Hiring Program, a new partnership with Veterans’ organizations to identify retired junior and senior Canadian Armed Forces officers who could be recruited into leadership positions within Walmart Canada.

I'm guessing careers as black humourists and satirists may also be in the cards, but probably not very lucrative. ;D


I think it all depends on the trade, experience and what you want to do, but you will probably have a pretty good network of professionals, some generally marketable leadership and planning skills and used to doing the impossible with nothing, so it's pretty wide open.  Unless you are a hang down, but then there are always contract positions back with the govt....

(I kid.  With the right people, it's a great way to keep that experience, and if done properly, great mentoring for juniour folks without the intimidation of a seniour rank.  Can be a big win for everyone.)
