What Could Canada's Constitutional (Monarchy?) Look Like? (split from Andrew Mountbatten Arrested)

At least we wouldn't have to pay those stupid prices for a GG and all the perks that go with the office.

If the GG goes, who decides to dissolve Parliament and all the other decisions solely made by the GG?

We can tear down the PMs residence and move them into Rideau Hall proper.

Besides, we need a total revamp of how our government works and rules of Parliament.

Maybe. Maybe not. Usually when a Westminster-style parliament switches to a republic, they directly replace the GG with a ceremonial President with similar costs. The President of India’s official residence is the same residence formerly used by the Governor-General, and before that the Viceroy.

Some newly-transitioned republics even add costs with the transition — when Ireland went from a ceremonial Governor-General to a ceremonial President, they added Presidential elections to the mix.
