Try this web site: http://www.forces.gc.ca/hr/cfpn/engraph/2_02/2_02_afteryouregone_e.asp

I was told that your next of kin gets a certain precentage of your wages for a certain amount of years. I think it was somethin like 15% for 5.

are you talking about the "owned" thing :cdn:

I'm by far a clerk, but I'm pretty sure it's 2 years of your wages (at whatever rank & pay incentive you're at when you are killed)  Then there's whatever life insurance coverage you have.  This is something that you should do on your own is get life insurance so that you have peace of mind that if something does happen to you, your family is taken care of.  There are some insurance companies that won't accept you because of your occupation though, so make sure whatever company you go through covers you in the military.  If you lie to them about your occupation, they may not have to pay out to your beneficiaries because of it, so make sure they know what you do.  Your best best is to go through SISIP to get life insurance.  You won't find a much better plan anywhere and the rates are pretty reasonable.

I never really thought about this before reading this thread. I wonder if I have to inform my present life ins. carrier that I have joined the reserves?

It would certainly behove you to check in with them.  As I said, some companies do not insure military personnel because of their risk and have it in their clauses that you are not covered if you die in an overseas accident/incident.  It is in your best interest to find out.
