I got a question seeings how theres a few guitar players on board, and its not really worth starting up a new thread but...

Can you take your guitar with you to BMQ? i‘m pretty sure i can last 2 and a half months without em...but it would be nice to have incase i find a bar or something with an open jam night. And something to entertain the people who are in BMQ with me *nods* ohhh and to pick up chicks cause chicks dig the guitar players *snickers* right? guys... :)

Yllw Ninja: I can‘t think of a nicer way to put this. If you think of bringing a guitar on your BMQ, then you are STUPID! Bring a couple of creature comforts like a book or a discman, but anything beyond that is just asking for trouble. One kid on my basic (which was conducted in Wainwright in a tent) brought an entire stereo system with him. He played it during our time off, much to the irritation of the candidates, and the instructors on the neighbouring courses. He got jacked up for it at least 3 times, and ended up getting it confiscated. He got it back eventually, and then it was stolen from him.

If you don‘t absolutely need, and can‘t afford to lose it, then don‘t think about bringing it.

I believe guitars were specificly mentioned under examples of things NOT to bring on my joining instructions...

Yeah i dont trust people much as it is...hey but the nice thing about a guitar is it‘ll still be sitting at home waiting for me...

Stealing from your comrades is, in the oppinion of some people, one of the worst crimes you can commit, as it breaks trust between troops...

That being said, unfortunately, basic training is a time when people who may need to be weeded out haven‘t been weeded out yet.

Hey, I made it through BMQ/SQ without losing very much (to my recollection), than in the chaos of the last few days, somebody lifted the lock right off my open locker while I was grabbing something inside it :o

Good thing I had a spare... :threat:

heh i got a story about a lock...tis not from the military but good story none the less

this one time my dad was at work at the local pulp mill and they have wooden lockers i guess...anyways what happened was someone switched the lock on my dads locker as a joke i assume. Problem...can‘t open the locker...so he goes and gets a saw...and cuts around the lock...problem solved hehehe

I still like how the Marines conduct things.

When you show up at basic you throw EVERYTHING except your wallet, watch and the clothes off your back into a garbage can. It is never seen again.

Helps to eliminate that summer campy additude that has infected our military.

That‘s sound like a good method to remind soldiers they‘re in the army now (Status Quo?) and not some slumber party.

collecting world war 2 memorabilia. I‘ve got a complete set of ww2 dated (well the majority of it is) 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion kit. it‘s very cool. currently under taking a fallschrimjager (german paratrooper) kit. got the jacket, and I‘ve got my hands on an actual metal ww2 dated ss fallschimjager pin, and boot knife. both uber rare things to find these days. I‘ll start working on a russian, and italian kit sometime later this year most likely.
