Where will they send me?

When I join the military next year or whenever I get accepted, do I go wherever they send me or will they look where my family lives and try to situate me closer like Petawawa or somewhere close like that? thanx for all your help

My understanding(not from experiance) is that you request the unit you want, or posting depending on trade. Depending on your performance on your courses, is how they determain who goes were.

The Army will attempt to accomodate your request but in the end, the requirements of the service will be the decisive factor. As long as you pass the course, your standing doesn't really affect where you go. Cheers.

They sent me to Wainwright.

Asked for Kingston, Edmonton and Petawawa. Got Petawawa.

When I had my interview, at the end the Lt. asked me if I had a preference in where I wanted to be posted. I asked what my options were (Infantry) he said Edmonton, Petawawa or Gagetown, I said, which ever will get me in the quickest. The Lt. then said not to put any preference down, because he said if for example I put Petawawa as my preference, and a job slot for Infantry opened up in Gagetown, I would not even be considered for the slot in Gagetown because Petawawa was my preference. So I didn't choose a preference at all.

The best advice I can give you is just talk to your recruiting center, and ask the person who interviews you.

Last posting season I had put in my three options, was told I was likely to get one, then everything went pear shaped. Got offered something I never even asked for, and ended up even further away from what I asked for. And my wife got posted somewhere even further afield (though not as far as she could have been).

Needs of the service. Thank God for LTA.
