Who‘s going Reg. 031 Infantry?

So, my life after basic training will consist of nothing but picking up garbage and being a gopher? Or, the wait to join my unit will consist of that.. Is joining the infantry a good choice? Because I am convinced everyday will be different and it will be fun. Well, what I consider fun may be different from what other people think fun is...So I guess the question will be, not what basic training is like, what is it going to be like AFTER basic for 031 infantry? Thanks. :warstory:

I have a file and am waiting till the end of the fiscal year for infantry to open up. I released from the reserves to join the reg force I could have done a component transfer but my freinds (already in reg) and a sgt at the base said I might be better off avoiding the BOR, so **** it. I also could have done direct entry but where is the fun in that, I live for the feild (16 weeks battle school) I am gonna aim for 1 or 3 battalion PPCLI because I have family and freinds in Edmonton and this will make my career option of 20+ years easier. :soldier:

I‘m going RCR, is there anyone else on the forum going RCR as well, or am I going to be a one man battle school? lol, everyone seems to be going out west. Well good luck everyone.

cfl; I know what you mean. I‘m 4 RCR right now. I won‘t say anything eles though. I‘m going 3 RCR for 3 years, after that, I‘m transfering to 3 PPCLI, if I can‘t get 3, I‘ll go 1.
I‘ve heard all the tales about the RCR‘s, and the PPCLI‘s. I just want to stay in the regiment a little bit longer.
I take off for the my BIQ in probably April or May. I‘ve been waiting for a year now to get on that course. they‘re going to crap all over me
"so you‘re from 4 RCR, a corporal, AND you got your jump wings?!? OH MAN YOU ARE SO DEAD!"
Greg

Your a corporal with jump wings and you don‘t have your infantry qualification?

my reg biq is what I meant to say there :D . that‘s all I got to do over again.
Greg

[QB] No offence to any RCR but they‘re a bit anal with their garrison stuff, ie ironing combats etc.

Uumm yeah, we don‘t iron combats, 1 RCR is probably the most anal of the 3 Battalions but we‘re not THAT bad. But when it comes to garrison, it‘s true, we house a lot of Garritroopers, is that a good thing? I would like to steer towards no more than yes. But then again, I‘m hoping to be in 3 VP in a years time ;)

CFL - Hindsight is 20/20. I read as much as I could absorb wrestling with the decision over which regiment to join. At the time (‘97) I came to the conclusion that the RCR was professional and the PPCLI were Cowboys. The CFRC ph‘d and said that a slot was open for RCR or I could wait 2 weeks for a PPCLI position. I went RCR. For me, I regret that only because it turns out I‘m a bit of a cowboy myself. More importantly, I‘m from the west coast and travel times from Wainwright vs. Meaford made a big difference. Finally, that garrison analness led to my voluntary release after my surgery. I‘m stubborn and I didn‘t back down from what I thought was the right thing to do. I ran into a PPCLI Cpl at Borden on my way out, he got to know me. He couldn‘t believe I was leaving, but he also acknowledged that in his opinion if I was PPCLI, things would have been different and I wouldn‘t have been placed in the situation which I found myself in.

Sometimes its just a roll of the dice. You can plan for all of this as much as you want to kids, but it isn‘t going to turn out as you intend it to. So learn to flow with the river, y‘know. S‘long as you can look in the mirror each morning, I do just fine.

Miss the Infantry every day though. Just smile and get on with the day, it‘s going to be a full one.

you are doing your interview in april? do you realize that its takes 4-6 weeks before they call you back after the interview? And that you have to be sworn in before starting basic? Good luck.
Im starting basic in may too :D

I am crossing my fingers that i hear somthing in the next two to three weeks. Hopeing for a spring Basic.

Listen up **** bird, I was in Bagdad when you were in dads bag, I neither have to justify my comments nor post my military experience.
You can take my comments anyway you want.
P.S. This site doesnt have the bandwidth for me to post my mil exp.

If you have so much experience, then you shouldn‘t really care about a little bit of hassle from some young punks. Those who complain the loudest usually have the most to prove...

Without Warning, you are with out a clue. If you do not wish to tell us about your Mil experience, then keep your mouth shut, cause no one will give a **** what you have to say.
