Hey everyone, well i've always wondered exactly what a) everyones opinions on reservists vs reg forces b) the differences between them and c) why those differences exist, and should they continue to or should we all be trained the same.

BONUS QUESTION: d) how would you go about making the changes so as to have the reserves trained to same level as the reg force.

I know some people have the opinion that reservists simply play at being soldier, and others don't think that at all.
A), B) and C) are my questions, but I place more emphasis on B and C, I really wonder why reservists cannot be trained to the same standard as reg forces.
Also why the differences between the reserve elements, the Army res, only has 4 bmq, 4 sq, vs Navy res bmq is the same as reg force, and then they do 6week NETP, Air force reserves do reg force basic too.

Just looking for some knowledge.

Mod note here.....

We have all seen where the Res vs Reg discussion goes, so keep it clean or it will be locked and deleted.

Your answer can best be found by using the "search" function.  This has been done to death before many, many times.

However if you persist in this line of questioning  without having used the search function I, for one, will regard you as simply looking to start a gunfight in a phone booth.

Considering that Reg and Res soldiers are fighting and dying side-by-side, does it really matter anymore?

Inch, I totally agree, I'm not looking for a bash the reservists thread...

That's good. But your answers to what you have asked have been covered here before, therefore will still be found by using the search function.

A. Both Reg F and Res F produce very good soldiers, as well as some who should have skipped the CFRC (for many different reasons).

B. Real life situations means different people serve creditably under different conditions.  The differences don't matter between those who are all contributing to the best of their abilities and to the extent of their personal goals and ambitions.  The biggest problem is the people who focus on those differences and only situate them as problems, often without a basis (or with a very limited basis) of actual knowledge and experience.

C. Money, and time on the part of many Reservists - we cannot create affordable training systems to "train all the same" with real life constraints of resources, funding and personnel availability.  This has been a real issue for decades and many different solutions have been tried.  Suggesting otherwise only exhibits a lack of understanding or knowledge of the real issues.

Now, as as been suggested, please start reading, and then from a basis of knowledge pose questions to enhance, not start, your understanding.

O'Leary thanks for the SUBTLE message, I get the point, and thank you I will research it more, but please don't be so condescending, its not necessary to make the point hit home.

Like Micheal said...

People join Pres or regs for different reason.

I think there is good in both and I think the army is making slow progress to fill the gap between the two types.

I personally choose to go Pres because of personal issue. but ill make it a Carree...working full time as long as possible.

Will I go on a tour...I need to get a serious discussion with my wife.

and as many said...search

There good people in both, as there are people who should never have been accepted.

Which is best? that depends on you goal and objective.

Both as some goods and some bad. Its up to you to make a list of the good and bad that suits you.

He answered your questions, then reiterated the 'search'. He wasn't being condescending, just honest. Your attempts to bait the mods are getting tiresome. Back up the truck, I'm coming in fresh and won't hesitate to put an end to your shenanigans.

This is locked, with the usual caveats.
