Just thought i would throw this question out there...as it affects all of us in process of joining or already serving.

Do you think we will see a budget increase?

If so, when do you think it will be announced?

I think we’ll get a little ($500 million) in the next budget unless some intense pressure is placed on the government.

We could always hire more civilians. We know how much money that saves.

They plan to increase the budget by one full billion for the next fiscal year or so I heard. Right now they haved called a 200 million reduction for the next 3 months, before the fiscal year ends.

Don‘t ring the bells until we see how much will "stick" to areas that matter, and how much will flow through.

So the 200 million reduction is to line up the 2002 budget? So, the increase is not really a billion dollars above our current budget, but the reduced budget.

Sounds like plitical rhetoric to me.

For a few weeks I thought we would get a increase, but now......... I would have to say no. The pesent gov‘t just doesn‘t have a clue and dosen‘t care. The military doesn‘t speaks and we don‘t have a defence industry so there is no to play the vote card.

sorry folks, and I was so hoping of going in with a budget increase.

All this is partly our fault... no matter what the situation, we always make things work (sometimes miraculously). Now this is what we are supposed to do, but where does it stop ? The upper echelons of the CofC need to put more pressure on the govt to increase funding, or start saying NO. But they won‘t do it, because they are afraid of losing their job. The Army doesn‘t have half the capacities it should have, and we keep losing more... :cdn:

Whoa ... guys!
Last time I checked, there were laws against smoking crack ... !
Budget increase for DND?
Now why on Earth would the Big Red Machine go and do something like that, when other countries are actually mobilising?
Come on, now - sober up (oh, sorry, Mr Minister - I wasn‘t specifically addressing you - it was somewhat of a rhetorical remark ... although, now that I think of it, I suppose I‘d sleep a little easier if I actually believed that Parliamentarians weren‘t usually "drunk as lords" ... an incredibly appropriate figure of speech, if I do say so myself ... but, I digress ...).

The Liddle Thug From Shawinigan is focussed upon building his legacy, and ya gotta figure he doesn‘t want to go down in history as the guy who actually spent some money on national defence. I mean, after all, isn‘t that musical fountain in his home riding much more significant? Or, what about all that money he saved taxpayers when he cancelled the EH-101 project (of course, let‘s not count those penalty fees ... about $500 million, wasn‘t it?)

No, Crouton is much more interested in retiring as the PM who did absolutely nothing contraversial during his tenure (is it over yet? Please, oh pretty please ... ?)

Nope - it‘s pure genius, on the part of his smarmy little weasel puke advisors (paid for by Liberal party coffers, so they‘re not accountable to the Canadian electorate, I might add).

This brain trust figures they can ensure the safety of Canadian troops by ... (are you ready for this?) ... cutting the budget on the eve of war, so as to cripple the Armed Forces, so much so that NONE of them will be able to afford to go in harm‘s way ... !!!!! Genius! Pure Genius!!!

Let‘s see - the Navy if running out of seaman who can deply without a waiver - that‘ll ensure our friggin‘ frigates don‘t go anywhere dangerous.

The Air Force hasn‘t been able to keep up with the technology of some of our allies, and thus won‘t be invited to the dance ... unless, of course, it‘s an airshow ...

And the Army ... ? Well, at least they finally bought some desert camouflage, eh? Now at least our guys can look good in some photo ops! Heck, they might even get to pull gate duty in the rear area, if only one of our benevolent allies will cough up some airlift ... (sigh).

I keep remembering something from our Regimental history - the fact that the Militia had approx 140K troops on strength in August 1939. Yup, we‘re oh so much better prepared today, aren‘t we?

And, the bottom line is this: You can‘t knit an Army overnight, no matter how much dough you throw at it. Today we are suffering from years, even decades of neglect ... but, the culprits can look forward to pulling in their obscenely huge pensions when they retire from the House of Commons, and the little weasels who hovered in the wings will flit away to advice other Quislings.

Old soldiers? They just fade away ... (and, best of all, if you‘re Militia - you get to fade away without a pension! Only in Canada, eh? Pity.)

lol, you‘re bang on bossi! BTW, are you a writer for "This Hour Has 20 Minutes"? :D

I‘m pretty sure we‘ll get a modest budget increase, but don‘t expect to be seeing any Canadian aircraft carriers or attack helicopters soon. From what I‘ve read, the budget will be increased by about $800 million and the MND will "find savings" of about $200 million by scrapping most of the Leos and cutting supposed "unecessary" items, for a supposed increase in funds of $1bn, which isn‘t going to buy shyt, just pay off the huge ops debt the DND runs almost every year and maybe put some bombs back in the air force inventory (they‘ve been almost completely without since they used them all in Kosovo in ‘99)

Well, considering how many basic courses were cut last year, a billion dollar budget increase to at least train troops is something. It sux pretty bad from a reservist level to place work on hold for the summer and then get told that there is no space on course for you. This happened to a friend this last summer, and he had to scramble to find replacement work...digging ditches for electrical work I believe. Personally I find that kind of thing administratively lame. I know the regs are having a number of problems aswell, and certainly don‘t mean to take anything away from them in saying this. I think we are all in a hole.

After reading and initially disbelieving what my eyes revealed. I came home and researched the little tid bit about reserve units in Ontario reducing their training nights due to budgetary restraints.

What a phucced up crock of hasbeens the CF has become.

I now know why I am so happy everyday that I am out.

And that includes being away from the politically correct individuals here who lurk and speak when it is easy, avoid confrontation and have the gaul to slam those who don‘t mask how or what they feel.

The so called VET‘s, it is idiots like you (you know who you are-self important flatulant) who ride the career wave through peer genocide and attrition and don‘t buck a phucced system.

As our infamous order in Germany was.

RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY...

Cause baby the battle has been lost.

What would an extra say...500 million do for the forces? Will they put it into Navy, Airforce or Army. I think I read that they are already gonna put more money into the commando unit. So what...they buy a couple more tanks or something, how does that help us. Canada‘s mobilization plan is horrible. We need some big planes or some big ships, so we can bring are forces where ever we want without another countries help.

Our equipment is lacking and against a superior force, are military would role over. We use artillery from WW2. Are heavy tank has a 105mm gun , compared to the American 120mm. We use small mortars. Maybe my thinking is to much "my gun is bigger than your gun", but come on. Oh and are poor ships....

Heres a rundown of the 2003 fiscal year budget in laymans terms:
To the Dwyer Hill Highlanders- $49,999,95.00
To our cash strapped units- $5 , go buy a couple hundrend .177 pellets and make do

:p

What has gone wrong with the military i grew up to love? :(
