A thought that hit me yesterday at work.

I heard that woman in the CAF can serve as infantry in combat positions.

If this is so, are the woman‘s physical requirements lower then the mens? If it is lower for woman, then it seems to be stating that woman are qualifed for the position with their lower strength requirments.

So, if woman can perform the same duties with lower physical requirements, what is the point of having higher requriements for the men? Can men not perform the same duties if they had the same requirements as the woman?

Women have lower requirments while getting in, but from my experience (basic) everyone does the same basic amount when they get in, regardless of sex.

Just an interesting thing i heard once

Iseral tried impliment females into combat arms roles (infantry)and found it didnt work at all. the cons outweighted the pros.

Well that is true that they stopped, but Iseral is a different country and religion plays a much larger role there. I would have to look at the reasons, but if I had to bet I would say it was because of pressure from the Jewish right that women were removed fom combat roles. The role of far right religious parties is very strong in Iseral, and they believe women that can‘t ride the same bus to temple, so why would they be for women in combat.

I never considered the religious side of it.
Whats the US‘s reason for not having them in the infantry??

Women in body bags is bad for politics. If they are in non-combat arms, you can say wrong place wrong time, but if they are in the combat arms....

There are hundreds of arguments both for and against women in the combat arms. We‘re opening a huge can of worms on this one.

There‘s a really interestign website about women in the military throughout history, as well as their roles today. It‘s a little geared towards the American military, but the arguments are pretty valid. It located at: http://userpages.aug.com/captbarb/

and should have info for everyone. Bottom line: the job doesn‘t change so neither should the requirements. You should get turfed if you can‘t do the job, male or female.

Can the average woman physcially meet the requirements for the infantry?

Does anyone in the army know of any women in the infantry in Canada?

The "average" woman? No, probably not. Could the "average" man do it? No, probably not either. Yeah, it would be harder for a woman to get in shape for it, but I doubt most men could get off of the couch and hump 100lb rucksack 13km either without the proper training.

Yeah, plenty, both reg and res. They‘re still by far the minority, but they‘re there.

Right on!

If someone screws up then punish them, don‘t sweep it under the rug. No special treatment.
That right there would probably raise moral a good notch.

I don‘t think i‘ve ever seen or heard fo female infantry soldiers (enlisted) in 1 or 3 rcr.

Man *I* couldnt even get up and hump a 100 pound ruck sack in the BFT time standards if thats what everyone was refering to.

Well, I‘m referring more to what 3 PPCLI was doing in Afghanistan; humping 100+ lbs over long distances through the mountains.

Everyone in the military is "supposed" to be able to haul 50lbs over 13km in the time allowed.

You‘ve gotta do that in your workup training for a tour, don‘t you?

Personally, I like ruck marching. It‘s not always the easiest thing to do over long distances, but I love challenges.

I‘m not a fan of the 13K march, i really don‘t think it proves anything except that you can struggle through 2 hours of dragging your body then spend the next week hopping around on blisters. I‘ve seen people practically run the bft to turn around and shut down on a winter week-end excersise.

I couldn‘t believe how much kit those soldiers were lugging around though, that was amazing.
I find it kinda funny, in a lot of the special forces british sas etc.. stories i‘ve read, they brag about humping 200 pounds of kit then they get discovered and have to blow it all up and break contact.

There‘s at least three female troops & 2 officers in 1 RCR. There is only one female in 3 RCR. She‘s only been here since last January.
