... unless, of course ;)

Well, would it be a sudden POTUS47 leaning toward more woke media outlet? Letting their media control slip? Maybe, maybe not.

Maybe Team POTUS47 wanted to have the issue come up again? Just as a way to reinforce Trump's sorta-kinda endorsement of Carney?
Maybe, maybe not.

Somehow, I don't think CBC would be able to "game" any media access system in Washington D.C. these days. EDITED TO ADD: Unless the new U.S. administration is way leakier, ideologically, than some would say, or the CBC is way more influential in D.C. than some seem to think :)
Carney isn't as 'opposite' to Trump as he's been made out to be, or acts...

If you watch the video I just posted, it turns out Trump may indeed genuinely want Carney to win. But not because they are politically opposite of each other, but because both could stand to profit greatly and are clearly in the same social clubs.

So his 4D chess game when he basically endorsed Carney might have been wishful thinking & false hope...

Same reason CSIS's request for a warrant involving Ontario Liberal politician Michael Chan sat on a desk in Bill Blairs office for weeks instead of the normal 2-3 days.
Just for comparison’s sake, police warrant applications never go to a politician/cabinet minister for approval. For more serious files or any warrant involving a communications intercept, they will get reviewed by a senior Crown who has to sign off on the application (that’s a requirement of the Criminal Code). I hadn’t realized CSIS warrants actually go to the minister in some cases.

So a future government wraps a new law in the NWC, and it is not renewed on its anniversary (first, second, whatever). The courts get further clogged with applications for judicial review.
Just curious as to whether a minority government can enact the NWC?n I'm thinking no unless they have support from another party and even then I think no.

Edit: Add more context.

The Notwithstanding clause is invoked by passing legislation in Parliament or a provincial legislature. It would simply be written within the bill, and would have to get through the House and the Senate in the usual fashion. A minority government would likely face a real challenge to get anything through that relies on it.

I think a Conservative government could achieve the same end by making the criteria for dangerous offender more robust. They can require that multiple murders create a prima facie case that mandates continuous incarceration.

These are the current criteria:

The court may declare an offender a “dangerous offender” where:
  1. the offender is convicted of a serious personal injury offender and constitutes an ongoing threat on the basis of:
    1. a “repetitive behavior” showing a failure of restraint and “likelihood” of causing injury or worse
    2. a “pattern of persistent aggressive behaviour” that shows “a substantial degree of indifference” to the “reasonably foreseeable consequences” of his behaviour; or
    3. in the “brutal nature” of the offence, the offender is not likely to be inhibited by the normal standards of behavioral constraints” or
  2. the offence is a serous personal injury offence and “has shown a failure to control his or her sexual impulses and a likelihood of causing injury”.
It should be relatively easy to argue that a multiple murder has already met all the criteria.

Miles Sanderson killed 11 people and wounded 18 others after a statutory release after 5 years of jail for assault, robbery, and uttering threats. He had 59 previous convictions (125 crimes).

That's our status quo.

The Conservative party might be talking out of their ass with some of their promises but I trust them to at least try and change our system for the better over the Liberal party doing nothing.

The people who make the decisions live in places where things like that don't happen, so they don't care. They will continue to push their activism, and the rest of us can just live(or die) with the consequences of the decisions of our betters.

Then again, POTUS47 played it respectfully on the socials after the same meeting, too. Still ....

C'mon, never ever ever? ;)

In all seriousness, I'm kinda curious, too, about how the Cosmic Butterfly Corp slipped in a question @ the White House - but I'm not suspecting all that much skullduggery, ESPECIALLY given how tight the White House keeps the media reins. Coulda just been a case of "I'll pick her so I don't have to pick x or y." 🤷‍♂️

Given that he overdosed and died, his risk of recidivism is probably low.

Exactly. The liberals are always couching their announcements. You're always left hanging, like you're expecting them to say more. They say just enough to sound good, but never get to the nuts and bolts of the screwing you're going to get.

Things like protecting people from Internet hate, racism, comments etc. It sounds good, but it is straight up censorship. What he's really saying, is you'll be happy with the narrative they tell you. Step out of line, say what's on your mind, rail against the status quo and like Britain, you'll have cops hauling you to jail.

Carbon tax? As soon as he's in power it'll be coming in spades.

He's been blatantly lying to us since the beginning. Whenmthe lies get to be too much, he hides away in Ottawa for a few days. Why should anyone trust him? Same cabinet, same actors, same ethics violators, same bullshit and divisivness. Carney is the only thing different, except he's more of a narcissist than trudeau, as impossible as that sounds.

There are more effective ways then invoking the NWC to get things done. Especially given many cases getbsuspended sentences because our prisons are full, we have a shortage of judges and prosecutors. So deals are struct to get things going faster. Criminal justice reform can't be solved with one new law, we need federal and provincial cooperation to achieve results.

NWC,OIC, Emergency Act.

I get the believed necessary evil of striking deals - it's culpable in a number of crimes and deaths I'm sure.

I want a government that's willing to try and change how things currently run wrt crime and criminal justice system.
