CAN-USA 2025 Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

Or... the media/political hyper dramatization over everything was not accurate. I know that doesn't fit the narrative of the evil WH occupant being heroically confronted by the suddenly nationalist elbows up crew.

No, there was no over dramatization over anything - the WH was confronted by a professional, who the WH knows has the vast majority of his people united behind him, who acted in a professional manner and didn't rise to any of the 'click bate' that they put in front of him.
As a result, they had 2 choices - do/say nothing and get nothing out of the meeting to display to their own people, or, pivot and put on the charm offensive and say, 'look at us, we are playing nice!' and remove an argument from the dissenting Republicans that the WH is ruining its relationship with this largest trading partner and closest ally.

Nobody's signed anything yet.
Yet that word has become this administration's byword.
That and the phrase has anyone seen the President's latest tweets yet ?

US confirms major trade deal with the UK. Seems like the US has been playing nice with others.

Trump is, characteristically, rather overstating the scope and significance of the deal, as well as how complete it actually is.

Did you read it compared to what it was prior to the meeting?

Major trade deal?
I haven't read it but it seems vehicle imports are significant component. I'm not sure I'd it call that a 'major' import sector. According to one source, the UK exported a little over 100K vehicles to the US last year (I'll bet a lot of them are Minis).

Ummm…the UK accepting the 10% tariffs Trump imposed in the UK back in April…sure. win-win, I suppose.

Starting to notice the pinch among their constituents.

U.S. lawmakers are proposing a bill that would allow some Canadian snowbirds to stay in the United States longer, in hopes of rebuilding cross-border tourism and supporting local economies.

The Canadian Snowbird Visa Act proposes to extend the length of time eligible Canadian citizens aged 50 and over could visit the U.S. without a visa to 240 days, up from the current 182 days that are permitted each year.

While it may entice some, what happens when those who don't pay attention to the minutiae find when they are out of the country for 184 days that they are no longer considered resident in Canada and it's effect on health insurance, income tax, OAS/GIS, etc.

Queue the winging in 3...2...1, followed by the "why didn't the government tell me?"

For customs purposes, non-resident status kicks in after you have not physically been present in Canada for a year, even if you are a Canadian citizen.

Besides, foreigners are good source of revenue.

"We need to focus on our Florida residents. And focus on, in this case, Florida homeowners, particularly our homesteaded homeowners, and we need to focus the relief there," DeSantis said. "I want Canadian tourists and Brazilian tourists subsidizing the state (through sales taxes) and making it so Florida residents pay less taxes. I don't want to give Canadians a tax cut."

No doubt he would favour a different property tax rate for 'natural born Floridians'.
