The sophistry and "just-asking-questions" around these conventional and completely normal levers of government are such a tell about the measure of good faith a person has. Of course it's now that special warrants are being called into question.
Seems like a solid pick. He's seriously invested in national security and was a competent chair of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians. I'm not too happy about Carney issuing only one mandate letter to all his ministers rather than individual ones.
I'm providing the government the benefit of the doubt until after the Throne Speech. It's good that "Protecting Canadian sovereignty and keeping Canadians safe by strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces, securing our borders, and reinforcing law enforcement." made it as one of the seven directives but, OTOH, there's less transparency here as to which direction Defence will be tasked to go.
