Updated Army Service Dress project

It is from a PowerPoint dated 30 May 2025 that DLR sent out to various organizations as an update for the initative.
If you search "Service Dress" on sharepoint, you can find a powerpoint titled "Updates to CA Dress" that was updated today. It covers service dress and the new CCUE operational dress.

Where'd this come from?

Are there forage caps dead? You'd think that No 1s are the prime order of dress for them.

Also, I hope red sashes aren't universal. That's an infantry thing.

PowerPoint that was shared across our org. We were advised to be aware of the proposed changes with the official rollout date TBC.
"Certain elements are finalized, while others, such as the controversial forge cap remain under consideration."

What is controversial about a hat lol?

A few things. Cost is number one. If the Forage or Service Cap become a mandatory issued item, the cost of headwear goes up, therefore the budget for service dress uniforms needs to increase, or savings need to be found in other uniform components (gabardine moves from issued to optional purchase for example).

Second, just deciding between the two. 1C/D patrol dress is an authorized optional order of dress, with a Forage Cap. Do we issue that forage cap for wear with No. 3 and then parts of an optional dress item are now issued, or do we only do the service cap in khaki and members still have to purchase a forage cap for their patrols (if they decide to get them or a unit buys them with private funds).

Third, usage. If we go with forage and service cap, how much will they actually get worn? if we do both, outside of offices with service dress as dress of the day, most members won't ever wear the service cap, as the only time they really put on service dress is for events like remembrance day, and would thus wear a forage cap.

hats are a very touchy subject in the army....

I'm very curious to see how the Sam Browne belt is going to look on the members with no discernable waist.

Why is there a skinny guy and a fat guy in each rank example?

My solution: Stetsons for everyone! ;)

Damn. I had hoped the rank patch would be on the right arm only, the plethora of stupid patches would be done away with and the shoulder titles would go back to cloth at the top of the sleeve, if we didn't do away with them altogether. Oh well.

Was looking over those slides this afternoon. It looks sharp, and from what I can tell from the CADCC RoD, the decision on Forage, Service, and Beret is something each specific corps will hammer out.

My educated guess based on some of the implied rumblings:

-Forage Cap will be a game time decision for individual Corps/Regiments. I believe the RRCA is leading the charge on this one, however, I am curious what the rest of the Corps fell toward this initiative; in that the Armoured Corps will ignore the initiative and go with Berets regardless and the 3 Reg F infantry Regiments seem to be apathetic to the whole thing.

-Peaked Service Cap is only for No 3 Dress (Ribbons, no Sam Browne or White belt), so my assumption is that it would be an optional item, either kitted out at initial issue and then purchased for replacements, or bought through Logistik Unicorps.

- Berets are the default that everyone keeps circling back to. There seems to be an understanding that everyone that has a distinct beret will keep wearing it with this new Service Dress, but that makes things weird for everyone else pushing for the Forage Cap option.

-Kilted folks will continue to be the anomaly with what they put on their head, and no one in Army G1 wants to touch that with a 10 ft caber.

As the CCA has signed his approval to the design and wearing of the uniform as per the slide show, I am happy this is moving from "concept" to "kit out complete date established" within a year and a half.

Shows how you misjudge the Infantry.

The Vandoos are wondering what it can be sold for.
The Royals are debating painting it

The PPCLI are waiting to see what the other two do, so they can do something different…

You're just jealous of IGs and AIGs because they can do higher orders of math that others fail at miserably.

:giggle:
Even with that mathematical aptitude, it appears they struggle to read or follow the Dress Instructions IRT mixing orders of dress. 😉

Perhaps they should work in a literary studies portion onto the course to make them more well rounded; or at least a touch more humble 😛
