Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Congrats folks for those still in, long overdue in my view.
Here is a question. Do you guys think this will spur some re sign ups?

Did a quick look at the CFHD rates. I looked at the most expensive places to live (like Vancouver). Quick review was that it wasn't until band 3 where the pay increase was large enough to change your band (it goes to 6). The difference in pay (before taxes) is higher than the loss of CFHD, by a good amount. In many cases those at the lower bands won't even notice. At the Sgt to Capt pay bands you're jumping 4-5 levels with the pay increase, and at that point CFHD changes by $50 per band. So you're out $200 but likely to get much more due to the pay % increase.

Mileage may vary. We'll see what will happen next year when they revisit the CFHD compensation again.

I think it will spur some to join specific trades. I think that it will help some stay on a little longer for the annual bonus. But a lot of the short trades are short because the civilian equivalent pays more. So likely we'll see them still leave, maybe just a little later in their career.

The move benifits are interesting, helps to reduce the stress for sure so good QoL improvement there.

Well, they promised us 20% and they are giving us 13%.

The only folks getting 13% or less are:

1) Those above Sailor/Private/Aviator with less than 5 years in.

2) COLs and GOFOs.

Both of these groups combined is a small percentage of the CAF. Everybody else is getting more.

Someone working a comfy and safe office job where they don’t deploy or sail or go to the field will still get a mostly 13% increase, which is pretty good.

Heck, I'm one of those staff Os at the puzzle palace working a comfy office job. And my raise is 17.7%.

So I did the math for myself. Including the +21 years bonus ($6000) it works out to about an 18.4% pay increase. As I don't get CFHD where I'm at I can't complain.

Yep. If they are applying this to the whole pay table, I'll be at 17.7%. I was ready to be happy with 5% per year for 4 years. This is nuts.

And more than anything, I'm genuinely happy to see things like scaled posting allowances and instructor bonuses. This is genuinely good for the institution.

Mark Carney and David McGuinty should never have to buy their own beers in any CAF mess ever after this.

Or dissuade the PS from bargaining higher because "the CAF got this
..."

Good. A good chunk of the loss to the PS is simply because the differential is so small that it doesn't compensate for the military inconveniences. I know a really solid LCOL that pulled pin at 25y and took an ENG 4 job. Stability and relaxed work, as he put it. We might actually keep some of these folks in longer.

Have to wonder if this scope of pay raise is causing some with the CCG to say, wait a minute, maybe we should be considered part of the CAF and undergo weapons training and have armament on our ships.

I described this elsewhere as ‘suspiciously competent’. I think some really, really solid staff work probably went into this.

Hats off to those who did this.
I have some little voice in my head chirping, did Anita Anand lay the groundwork 20-24 months ago for this to happen.

We've got good people that do staff work. They don't always get the leway to do it though.

I to am pleasantly surprised. Most important, told my wife what my raise is going to be, so she made me take her out to supper. That's QoL improvement right off the bat!

Previously lost PLD and didn't qualify for CFHD for HFX. About to lose my provisional CFHD. Currently top tier SDA in a sea going billet that puts me at sea for 80 or 90 sea days a year. Not sure for what level I qualify for the annual service pay as I CT'd about 6 years ago from 28 years full time Class B/C. Overall pretty pleased.
