5 Canadian soldiers suspended after Nazi salute video emerges

Nope,

Its even an example now on the department website: look at Fireforce ventures

Very curious that they actually name a member and identify that administrative measures were taken.

It is. Since most press releases, when this sort of thing occurs, usually decline to name someone undergoing administrative measures, citing privacy regulations.

Interestingly enough, the company's info-machine (archived link - archived here as well - to avoid bringing traffic there) reminds one that (yellow highlights mine) ....
... Contrary to media reports, no present/former Canadian Army personnel affiliated with Fireforce Ventures faced disciplinary charges. None of them are or were white supremacists, as per the publically available summary investigations findings of the 3rd Canadian Division and Canadian Forces Provost Marshal. All returned to duty under honourable conditions, and had the utmost respect for the uniform they wore ...

So another thought rattling in my brain tonight. F me, I am not sure how to fix it. And the blame is not easily laid in any one area.

So I shared my experiences of hate/racism/bigotry during my 28 years of service. From dark humour right up to thats really disturbing.

I want to share another experience. The last Reg F course I instructed on was a CQCI at Meaford in 2016 and it had RCR, Patricia, Arty, RCD, P Res (or A Res now?). One of the strongest candidates was very openly gay and no one gave a damn. There were RCR women SGTs and WOs, no one gave a damn. We had Muslim MCPLs on the course and no one gave a damn. You get the point, t was all about put up, show us what you got and thats how you are judged.

Teaching those students helped me to be reassured the army was in good hands and the most of the stupidity of the past was well, gone. It was one of the things that made me at peace about releasing in 2018. To this day, former troops and NCOs (Reg and Res, still serving and out) of mine still contact me for advice and guidance. Its like I am the never-ending-WO (including convincing a retired MCPL not to commit suicide).

Stories about these F-ing idiots and the other stories of the ones looking to seize land and the stupid blue hackle mafia, make me sick to my stomach and ask why? Why is this shit still happening? Especially in the political climate of today where it doesn't take much to turn the Canadian public against the military.

We can do better and must do better. To those serving now, you are building a legacy for the future members of the CAF and this nation, please take it seriously.

Sure.

Right-wing supremacists ought to be driven out of the military. Their point of view and attitude are contrary to our values and our mission statement and very unlikely to be "corrected" by anything the military would try to rehabilitate them. So, for them, disciplinary proceedings if applicable and release from the forces in all cases after that.

Soldiers/airpeople/sailors doing, for some unknown reason, something dumb related to fascism at a party, under circumstances that don't amount to a "white supremacist meet" and who otherwise do not exhibit or hold such views, should be disciplined as appropriate, perhaps put on C & P, but should not have their career put in jeopardy, especially if they are otherwise good soldiers/airpeople/sailors. Dumb will always be Dumb, but does not merit the "death" penalty that is dismissal.

My mention of a "Spare" is, of course, a reference to a certain prince of the realm's participation in a costumed party disguised as a Nazi. If he can do dumb things, knowing full well his grand-mother would go ballistic on him, perhaps we can cut some slack to dumb junior ranks.
Define Right-wing supremacist, because I have been called one for voting CPC. Now someone promoting the actual Nazi party or the KKK, in my books meets the definition. A guy that studies history and finds Nazi Germany an interesting subject is not necessarily a Nazi.

Also I want the same bar applied to Communists, they killed some 50-100 million people in the 20th century, yet seem to get a pass for some reason?

I equate anyone that supports Hamas, ISIS or the IRGC on the same level as a Nazi/KKK supporter.

If it's any comfort, @ArmyRick, maybe I'm naive re: how easy/difficult it is to do the right thing at some points (and bosses' willingness to follow-up & support the right thing), but I suspect the overwhelming majority of the military is still like this ....

... again, if it's any comfort, keep in mind that 1) rules get made not because of the 97% plus who follow rules, but for the other 3%, and 2) media coverage and clicks tend to be driven by the novelty of the idiot 3% (just like bad cops, teachers, clergy, scout leaders, hockey coaches/volunteers, etc.).

Well in this situation, it was already in the national press, as it was the press that came to DND with it. Made worse that the reporter in question had story in hand that stuff from this person's store was being found on ISIS fighters in Syria. It was an absolute mess that went all the way up to the MND and CDS being involved.

Hah, sorry, total sidetrack, but remember when that one random plumber’s (or something like that) stolen company truck showed there up as a technical, still bearing the logo?

Do soldiers still have to show up for work when they're suspended from military duties?

Would suspension of duties also mean their pay is cut, or will it just be another covid vacation?

The letters for suspension I have seen also stated the member was banned from military facilities during the suspension unless specifically authorized in advance for the purpose of some military administration such as getting served the charges. it did not stop their pay unless they were a Class A reservist that could no longer sign a pay sheet.

Would like to see the video also as there are so many pictures these days that are "look, a nazi salute" as people wave or blow kisses. Not ready to prosecute until the evidence is shown.

The other side as well as even if it is a Nazi salute is it because they are joking/mocking white supremists or is it because they espouse those beliefs? Two very different things.
