I stated it as the reality of politics.

The leader of the opposition in reality has two jobs. Their job as leader of the official opposition, and their job as leader of their political party.

The leader of the CPC's job is to convince voters that the CPC should be the next government. The way to do that in the current media environment is to make soundbites that cut through all of the other noise...

Again, I go back to the point that the PM has said the CPC is working with them to craft legislation, which indicates that the opposition is doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing, regardless of the noise on social media/news media.

I maintain this is an uphill battle for the CPC when facing a hostile media and info ops.

Nonetheless he’s factually correct. Inflation (at 1.7% currently) is within the Bank of Canada’s target range of 1-3%, and a bit below the target point of 2% annualized. Inflation rose out of target range in early 2021, settled back into the target range late 2023, and has steadily trended down since, finally ducking below the 2% target mean this past summer. Inflation is essentially right where it should be. It has trended downwards for two years now, and the goal is not zero inflation.

I trust my comments regarding the Kirk murder don’t make my reply on economic figures contemptible to you.

I never said they were failing as opposition.

I just took umbrage with the claim that the role of the opposition is to make the governing party look bad through playing party politics. The role of the opposition is to serve as a critical check on the government, questioning its policies and suggesting alternatives. They criticize government activity, hold the government accountable, propose improvements, and if need be, present itself to the public as an alternative to the party in office.

To be honest, this is dialogue, I am ok with it. Your not attacking me, your stating hard numbers. This is what the Far Left, Left, center, right and far right should be doing.

I agree inflation is lower than has been in awhile. However, given the high jobless numbers, no deal signed with Trump on non-CUSMA items and people still feeling the hard financial pinch, I would like to see inflation like in the decimal numbers (like .3% or .5%).

Now inflation numbers being lower (for now), we could still get things much, much better in the overall economic picture. Government spending needs to come down. Government has got to stop borrowing money. The 5 projects that were already underway, are going to be pebbles dropped in a big lake. We need projects unleashed in big numbers, get the cash rolling into this country (repealing the tanker ban and C69 is NOT an optional thing, it must happen)

If we see a BoC rate cut in the fall it will in part be to encourage spending and investment and discourage sitting on savings, which should have the impact of increasing inflation slightly.

People learned a lot about inflation and the harm that comes from it, but I feel like there should be a public campaign teaching about deflation and how it could be much much worse.

I guess the TL;DR is inflation hits the consumer, deflation devastates the economy.

Of the top of my head, the foreign homebuyers ban in the last election. It was full of loopholes that made it basically pointless.

I haven't actually heard anyone come up with a realistic approach for this, as people just shifted to a company buying it as an investment instead of in their name. Most rental properties are now owned and run by businesses, so going to hard over could impact that.

The measures to tax vacant properties tend to create a lot of paperwork for normal homeowners.

It's absolutely a problem, but it's not something anyone has really figured out across the globe.

I really hope you're saying this in the context of "this is just what PP is like" or "this is what politics has devolved into", and not "this is actually the purpose of the opposition". Because, that is not the purpose of the His Majesty's loyal opposition.
