It entered full rate production last year, is transonic, and Boeing plans to offer an armed version to replace old F-5 Freedom Fighters. And in case, we badly need to replace the Hawk and especially the Tutor.

Yes, it is in production but no production aircraft have been delivered. 1st is expected in December. Max speed according to Boeing is .975M; transonic is still subsonic. Boeing may be planning to sell USAF F-7 but I highly doubt there is any one in the Pentagon wanting it .

Some might believe the Snowbirds are a useful recruiting tool. I’m not sure how that could be when they’re flying antique trainers while we see USAF & USN demonstration teams flying F-16’s and F-18’s.

I am going to show my age but I remember as an Air Cadet I watched the Snowbirds fly over CFS Dana in 1973. That is 52 years ago. Time for that plane to retire.

The general public sees Snowbirds impressive flying in a Volkswagen Beatle vs the Blue Angels in loud and fast Scat Cats.

I was under the impression that RCAF was having trouble attracting and keeping CF-18 pilots. Our 18’s are probably viewed as antiquated

very few teenagers appreciate the difference between a Tudor and an F16. In fact, most appreciate the show they put on far more than the ones done by the newer equipment simply because the show stays right in front of them. The intricacies of a square loop of a vertical climb to 15000 feet is beyond them and any speed pass over 400 knots is lost on them: its just fast. The Snowbirds are a great recruiting tool and are worth far more than your fancy painted F18 or a quick pass by and F35 before it disappears back to the states. The Canadian Armed Forces need a new training aircraft and the Snowbirds need a new demo fleet. A T7 upgraded with some armament might be just the ticket and it would also serve to combat drones far better than anything else we have

Actually I will give you this bit- if our training fleet also gives us a fleet of light, unsophisticated cheaper-flying aircraft that could be used for drone plinking, that’s not a bad thing. I feel like every western Air Force should be looking at options for intercepting mass drone waves like Russia’s find of using, and that cheap and light fighters are probably a part of that toolbox.

I like that but they can’t keep up with the Hornets. So rip out the ejection seats and install equipment to fly as a drone, add a pair of bombs to the belly hard points and give to Ukraine.

And Beechcraft even offers an armed version of the Harvard II, the AT-6 Wolverine.
