Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Currently only Edison motors is the only fully Canadian manufacturer of heavy trucks. Sad state of affairs.
He just got kicked on the pants over his diesel electric not being environmentally certified. He is in Ottawa now trying to find a way to certify his engines.

We actually have a few. The LHS HLVW are actually FMTV. Both trucks are based on the Steyr 1491.
While FMV has the same original design input from Steyr, my understanding is that the IP for the entire US FMV line of vehicles (as for HEMTT) are US govt owned through Oshkosh. It's the broad variety of vehicles that had already been developed by Oshkosh that makes them attractive. - That and being on the same continent. Essentially one could have bought them, more or less, off the shelf with little or no need to "Canadianize."

🍻

LocMart builds the FMTV truck part now for HIMARS.

Given how backordered LocMart is for HIMARS, a LocMart Canada production site would not be unreasonable.

yea stupid stuff where a generator is not certified for the hwy and they want a bigger engine, when it's not needed. So typical of EC.

Somewhere Erwin Rommel and Heinz Guderian are spinning in their graves.

Or, just perhaps, things have changed and they would recognize that. They developed their systems by adapting new technologies to their situation - 100 years ago.

The Facebook link with the small write up. Funny it is such a big deal. The Military takes such a simple task and turns it into a big deal costing lots of money to test a standardized system.
The CAF is different and does things differently for a few reasons.

1. The CAF wants to generate interest, so they post a lot of routine things. Nobody wants to watch Day & Ross trial a new system, but lots of people want to see the CAF do basic things.

2. The CAF has procurement processes that mean they need to ensure things work together, because unlike Day & Ross, the CAF can't just buy an off-the-shelf solution the next day if they have issues with a new system.

3. The CAF doesn't make money from shipping rocket pods, so there is less push to get things done fast, so it can make money. Businesses need things done fast, because fast makes them money.

4. "Standardized" doesn't necessarily mean it all works together. It means it should... but should and does aren't the same.

Your item 2 pretty much highlights the roots of the CAF's problems.

Speed of response.

German solution; more MLRS, PZH2000 and RCH155.

168x RCH155
166x PZH2000 (up from 134)
36x new M270 plus the Israeli PULS system

The wheeled units will be forwards with the brigades and the tracks held by the division.
Those are some fairly robust numbers.
