Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

The economics of the holidays will really play a factor here. If we get more strong economic growth, and high consumer spending in the holidays. That would play well for the liberals but really the biggest thing that could either damn them or deliver them to polling prosperity is the major projects office needs to see shovels hitting ground as soon as possible

Or a massive housing price collapse coupled with huge increases in food prices exacerbated by a tightening food supply. Or a resumption of mass immigration to support housing prices by causing scarcity again. All government policies.
Canadians are hurting more from 10 years of Liberal policies than can be healed by the projects laid at the alter of the MPO which is yet another signature vanity project. Carney needs to make a deal with Trump, and keep the immigration door slammed shut for the next 10-15 years. So far he’s done the opposite. Good luck.

There’s likely no deal with Trump to be had better than what we already have. He is a true believer in mercantilist economics and actually thinks he’s going to improve his country’s position this way. Some of the tariffs can be fought legally, but protecting CUSMA is likely the realistic best case at this point.

"Liberal arrogance" is like "sunrise in the east". It's a known fact.

Somehow, the Conservative Party has managed to continually seize defeat from the jaws of victory despite knowing that fact.

Was just a change in tone from Reid that I noticed.

I don’t see a Conservative Liberal crossover anytime soon.

Two reasonable polling thoughts:

1) things have for the most spot settled with a slight separation, protestations that the Cons are climbing and will soon eat the Libs notwithstanding…

Time will tell... I think saying things like CPC will eat the Libs soon though is weird.

Here's an example:

…and…

2) Canadians generally don’t like the idea of Poilievre as PM compared to Carney, again notwithstanding assertions that Poilieve is on a strongly ascending trend…that’s just not the case.

Ya I don't understand how he is so unpopular yet the party is seemingly neck and neck. I don't know who told you he is ascending...

If memory serves me correct (like how I thought closed the cattle gate? hope not)

Katy Perry's boyfriend was also personally un popular leading up to the 2019 and 2021 election, and yet we saw what happened.

CTV commentator James Moore (Former CPC minister) addressed this head on. Pierre only ever had a 20 point lead against Trudeau Liberals, thats it. Hell, half his MPs were going to retire to "spend time with family", then Trudeau announced his resignation, he said it basically re-set the polls. And look what happened? The "retiring" Liberal MPs suddenly had a change of heart. Pierre had a 20 point lead against Trudeau, never against PM Carney.

This is what frustrates me, is many here (I am guilty of it too) not looking at the whole picture and root cause of the problem.

Listening to Scott Reid this week and he seems concerned about Liberal arrogance. I dunno time will tell...
Liberal arrogance and complacency in my opinion, is what sank them in 2006, again in 2008 and royally to third party status in 2011.

ALL politicians would be wise to study our political history (Like look at it from all angles and ask some big why questions), it is literally a road map on what not to do.

Housing is a double edge sword, you want it affordable but you dont to destroy people's investments. If housing collapsed and people could afford homes the opposition would attack the government for destroying peoples investments.

Food prices is a beast the government cant do much to directly affect. I say that because even if you got rid of all the "hidden taxes" Pierre says exist, grocery prices would barely tick down. Poor weather, salmonella outbreaks, ecoli outbreaks, bird flu leading to mass culls have done more damage to the supply chain to affect prices then any taxes have.

No I mean two parties form a coalition on election night. Or straight up the LPC absorbing the NDP.
Depends. I think a big faction of the NDP want nothing to do with the Liberals ever again, last I spoke to Tony McQuale (One of the leadership candidates), he told me on the phone they don't want want anything to do with Liberals and it would be better for them as a party if CPC wins.

338 agrees with you.

Thats still awfully close, and the trends in the last few weeks show the Liberals slowly declining in popularity while the conservatives slowly rise in popularity.

Liberal PAST behaviour shows they need an "event" to boost their popularity like COVID, Climate change "emergency" or Trump (oh my! Lions, Tigers and Trump). Unless they are creating the next emergency, not sure what tricks they have up their sleeve.

So on another brilliant Liberal move, Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin has allowed for plastic straws to be made here but only for export to the USA and they are still banned for sale in Canada. Royal WTF?

Its dumb shit like this that will equal a thousand cuts that will sink the Liberals.

Time is not the friend of the LPC. They may have been better losing the spring election and restarting. I expect any defeat in the future will be devastating for the LPC.
