Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Germany is trying to find 500 BEuros to invest in defence. At the same time it is trying to miltarise its society, save its auto industry and convert it to weapons manufacture.

South Korea has been supplying the world with ships, cars, TVs and smartphones for years. Its population is highly miltarised. It is armed to the teeth and its domestic supply lines are all open and running efficiently. And people are willing to pay for wjat they have and they know.

Advantage South Korea.
All the more reason we should buy from them, subs, arty, tanks, etc the availability rate of K2s suggests we wouldn't have the supply chains issues we do with Leopard

which tax policies are you referring to? we have some of the lowest corporate and capital gains taxes in the G7. History also shows decreasing taxes on businesses has not translated into increased investment
of course not. When a country takes a decade to replicate what they did 40+ plus years before in (what) 9 months (the pipeline) and spends 10 times the original estimate in doing so, no responsible money manager is going to choose that country in which to invest. We invested in Canada and our investments barely kept up to the cost of living and those were the good years. 5 years ago we decided enough was enough and chose to invest off-shore. Since then we have averaged 14% real growth per annum. Our P.M. has burnt a lot of carbon jetting around the world and having his picture taken with foreign leaders. I have heard and read a lot of promises and plans but natives are still boiling water, there are no improvements being put in place between Winnipeg and Churchill, no pipelines going anywhere and no shovels in the ground. The only province with a positive housing market seems to be Alberta and the only projects being fast-tracked are the ones that were already approved. yada, yada, yada.

theres more to the world then mega projects, there are other investments, and the last time during the harper years, when corporate taxes were cut to where they are now. We saw no major increases in investment, thats just not how companies actually do things at all, infact unless theres a tax break, many dont. including areas that dont need environmental reviews etc it just doesn't materialize, long gov record or not

That ... is ... cool. Says the man just coming in from the 8th time this season that he's used his significantly less expensive but handraulic snowblower to clear his own driveway.

:giggle:
My electric leaf blower has done sterling work three times this year.

and this is on businesses, using and in many cases exploiting things like the TFW program, lobbying government and other programs for cheap labour rather then investing in canadians or the business. The provinces haven't helped the situation either, but good on the gov to be finally trying to turn this around and focus on generating growth and jobs

FTFY 😉

South Korea continues to go all out. This is an excellent development with NK and Russia getting further in bed with each other.

Could we just sign the damn contract already?

Some further information regarding Canola. Chinese buyers have bought 10 cargoes worth now.

Canadian canola is expected to be shipped between February and April, two traders with direct knowledge of the deals said. Each cargo is of around 65,000 metric tons.

Ten cargoes, or around 650,000 metric tons, represent over 10% of China's canola imports in 2024 and about 26% of its total imports last year.

Unless you're outside in it.
I used to laugh at this wet cold / dry cold thing but honestly, -5*C in SW Ontario chills you right to the bone. You can dress for -30*C dry cold.

And yeah. Lake effect streamers can be quite the snow conveyor belts. You can literally drive 30 kms on the 402 in bright sunshine and then have to drive through a 5 km total blizzard whiteout before emerging on the other side for another 30 kms in bright sunshine again.

I wonder if it would be possible to convince BAE Systems to open a factory in Canada and put the Challenger 3 into production, rather than just being an upgrade program for existing hulls. It uses the same hulls as the Challenger 2, and they own all the blueprints and necessary rights to that design.

If we picked the CV90 and BvS10, those could be built at the same factory, and I'm sure Britain would like more than 148 Challenger 3s.

A clear departure from Trudeau era LPC.

It's a nice first step.

Four dollars doesn’t sound like a lot, but we have many patients who are on four or five, six medications because they’re diabetic and hypertensive,”

That's nice. I'm paying out of my pocket to cover some medications for my parents, certainly more than $4 a pop though. In a way this is helping them be more Canadian.

According to the Immigration Department, it covered 623,365 beneficiaries in the fiscal year 2024-2025 — up from 90,328 a decade ago. The expenses amounted to $896.5 million, up by $306.1 million from 2023-2024 due to increased volumes of claims.

Canada and Japan sign new tech transfer agreement

the speed at which this government is moving is honestly refreshing.

3%? Not a bad deal, but something tells me the koreas are eexpecting big sales increases.

This is how you build consensus for defence expenditures, you buy from Canadian suppliers.

The F35 program is a champion of spreading spending broadly to build political consensus (while increasing costs).

Interesting tack, politically speaking ...
Taking one of Team Blue's priorities & running with it pre-snap-election, as some of the commentariat are suggesting?

We'll have to see ....
