The dumbest thing you can do as a country is announce you’re trying to acquire nukes. Basically makes you a giant target for anyone who does not wish for you to have said capability.

And I think that the majority of these like-minded nations would be similarly inclined. Not all, unfortunately.

Having read that article I'm left with the feeling to be honest of a bunch of 20 something year old's playing an extended version of Axis and Allies over beer and pizza.

Poland is mentioned only 12 times in the entire article - most of which are merely 'labels' and not anything of sustenance. The reality is that today, here and now, Poland has a much stronger, well defined and available armed forces than Germany does. Germany is decidedly back seat to Poland. A much better scenario would be them playing out how a joint Polish-German side would game this.

The Polish PM, Andrzej Duda has gone on record saying 'Polish troops would defend Lithuania, treating any aggression there as a threat to their own territory.'

I doubt it. UK is a vassal nuclear nation of the US. The U.S. completely controls the Trident nuclear capabilities of the UK. Essentially a non-conventional extension of U.S. nuclear capability stationed/pre-positioned in the European AO.
