Iran Super Thread- Merged

In some ways worse than Russia or China where there's more control in the centre.
It was somewhat tightly controlled, with the IRGC slowly and quietly taking power from the Clerics. However the rapid leadership churn and pulverising of their command and control centres in the last 2 months has broken what central control they had.

Many years ago I remember the curiosity about the black hole that was North Korea for a lot of allied int. I am starting to wonder if Iran is similar. Israel has hooks. But maybe they're not as deep as we all imagined?

Israel is good at HUMINT and cypher intelligence, notably how they took out so much of the leadership of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. I suspect their Iranian network is growing by the day, as the large population that hates the IRGC is a big sea for the fish to swim in. However they have to grow carefully as the IRGC will do their best to insert double agents in hopes have capturing a Mossad agent and leaders of the resistance.

The Houthi's are much harder nut to crack as they rightly paranoid and use family/tribal ties to bind their leadership. Plus there is no direct land connection to develop the HUMINT networks with.

To me Israel is also a questionable player in this. I have no doubt their hooks are deeper than they let on, and are playing their own game here.

The same way that a lot of NK int is US Eyes only SAP, I suspect that the Israelis act the same way for various reasons.

This is wild. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this, but the news outlet is credible.

Mariners stranded in the Gulf have apparently been targeted by scams purporting to be Iranian officials levying tolls for transit, with requirement to pay in crypto. One of the ships shot at by the IRGC a few days ago may have been a victim of this scam.

A “pay the strait of Hormuz toll” crypto scam is just next level.

Beats the heck out of scamming a granny for iTune gift cards to clear a CRA debt.

How fuvking stupid do you have to be to do this ??

I'd use some caution and wait and see if a more reputable outlet verifies this.

CJFUSA is a project of James O'Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas. That group has an extensive history of using deceptively edited footage to mislead viewers, this is even the exact same style of their videos.

If you Google it you’ll see it pop up on a bunch of other media outlets …

But they have also argued that it was President Trump’s decision to attack Iran that entangled their country in a destructive conflict whose effects may not be over, some of the officials said. Emirati officials told the U.S. officials that if the U.A.E. runs short of dollars, it may be forced to use Chinese yuan or other countries’ currencies for oil sales and other transactions, some of the officials said.

If it's a currency swap, it's not a gift. The US even made money on the one with Argentina.

Singapore saying that if China makes a play for Taiwan that it will 'refuse to choose'. That they will '...act in our own long term national interest. We will be useful, but we will not be made use of.'

Hormuz is just a ‘dry run’ if China and U.S. go to war in the Pacific, Singapore foreign minister warns

Should a war break out between China and the U.S. in the Pacific, “what you are seeing in the Strait of Hormuz will be a dry run,” Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said Wednesday.

Singapore will “refuse to choose” one over the other, he added. “The way we conduct our affairs is we assess what is in Singapore’s long term national interests, and if I have to say no to Washington or Beijing or anyone else, we don’t flinch from that.”

The minister was also asked if the actions of Iran in trying to extract tolls from ships passing the Strait of Hormuz would be have other countries thinking of also collecting tolls through chokepoints such as the Strait of Malacca.

Balakrishnan said that it was a risk if this scenario came to fruition, but the states alongside the Strait of Malacca — Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia — have a strategic interest in keeping it open and not collecting tolls.

Article 44 of UNCLOS states that “States bordering straits shall not hamper transit passage ... There shall be no suspension of transit passage.”

“The right of transit passage is guaranteed for everyone. We will not participate in any attempts to close or interdict or to impose tolls in our neighborhood,” Balakrishnan said.

“With respect to both America and China, we have told both of them we operate on the basis of UNCLOS,” he said, referring to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

At a time when the Mideast crisis, the Ukraine war, and U.S. tariff actions have sowed a sense of distrust among nations, Singapore’s Balakrishnan emphasized on building trust.

“Trust is basically a way of lowering transaction costs. Being predictable, being boring, being reliable, being trustworthy has got real value.”

His remarks followed those from Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong who gave the keynote address at the event. Gan said “Trust can no longer be assumed, it has to be built and strengthened.”

The IRGC is a business/mafia masquerading as a State entity. Sort of like Russia…
Or Hezbollah, or Hamas ....

Meanwhile, latest on the Jesus-busting story:

Trump says currency swap with UAE is under consideration

Even before this all kicked off the Gulf States were starting to tighten their belts and the King of KSA, said: "Citizens it's time you invested your money here and not just the Kingdom paying for everything". Large projects were getting cancelled. I think the problem is that all the wealth goes into deep pockets and there is not as much reserve as people think there is and those with the money have it stashed elsewhere and know that everything in the Gulf is literarily built on sand and has little real value in the long run.
