Toronto has maybe a third of the GTA population. I proposed an infrastructure project that provides a service to the entire population and also serves the rest of Southern Ontario. How is that a hate fest. I have lived with a well-developed rail system and it doesn't start with a point to point service: it provides a way for all to access it and we do not, repeat for emphasis, do not have the infrastructure in place to fulfill the dreams of your professionals. And your figures are bullshit. You are always accusing others of shoddy or negligent research so here is a clipping saying otherwise.150 to 180 flights between Montreal and Toronto per day.
Plus all the traffic on the 401.
All elites.
This thread is nothing but a hate fest over the largest drivers of the Canadian economy.
It must irk some that the economy of Toronto is bigger than the economy of Alberta or BC. God forbid they get a infrastucture project. If a project isnt moving raw resources out of the ground and out of the nation it's not worth it clearly.

There are over 167 flights every week between Toronto and Montreal, which averages to about 24 flights per day operated by various airlines.

I don't think those that oppose or question the construction of an HSR have a hate fest for your movers and shakers but rather are questioning to cost/benefits of it all. All construction starts with planning and is followed by the installation of a solid foundation before any of those beautiful facades that are visible to the public are installed. HSR is all about a beautiful facade: it lacks the foundation for growth.
Good news! The Army will reorg again, and again, and again both before and after high speed rail between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal is complete.Too bad this isn't going to happen before the Divisional realignment for all those people who get told "by the way, you need to be in Montreal tommorrow, but make sure you are back in time for parade at 1900.
But how many times a day will there be HSR trains? I’m sure there must be a way to accommodate some slower moving VIA Rail trains.Slow trains on tracks slow down fast trains on tracks. It's the same problem VIA has on CN/CP tracks.
...Why run a slower Via rail train when you could send a HSR train instead? Or are you saying add additional stops along the ALTO route? But how many times a day will there be HSR trains? I’m sure there must be a way to accommodate some slower moving VIA Rail trains.
They're already accommodated on existing rights of way. The high speed rights of way won't have whistle stops in Ingersoll or Casselman. That's one of the ways to get high speed - not stopping at every Podunk shack on the side of the rails. But how many times a day will there be HSR trains? I’m sure there must be a way to accommodate some slower moving VIA Rail trains.

HSR rail should only be on electrified tracks, with no other trains using those tracks. Freight and VIA trains stay on the existing rail network.Every hour in each direction is their minimum. Half hourly during peak.
Remember those math problems in grade school?
Work out what happens when one train is running at 320 kph and another at 201 kph (top speed possible for VIA Siemens Ventures). Next add in more stops for the slower train.
You'll quickly realize there is no point. It's actually better to just take a bus 50 km and transfer to HSR. Which is exactly what they do in sparser areas of most places with HSR.

No they won't,........not for a vacation with any amount of luggage.Plenty of people will GO train to Union and transfer to Alto. Just like they would drive to Pearson to catch a flight.
Again no. They have local trains feeding in to the centres. They also have the real milk runs that stop every 3 or 10 km and faster ones that stop about every 30 miles so you get a choice. If you live in Oshawa you don't have to spend an hour getting to Toronto to travel 3 hours to Ottawa. Instead you would get on in Oshawa and spend 3 hours getting to Ottawa as the trains would run every hour. Pardon the sarcasm but it is called a network for a reason.Every hour in each direction is their minimum. Half hourly during peak.

Did they give them a viable option or was it all or none?Polls,...ya' get what you pay for. Rinse and repeat until they hit one that supports the buyer.....
I saw lots of people dragging bags to ride VIA from Quebec to Ottawa/Montreal last March break, so I suspect you may not be entirely correct. No they won't,........not for a vacation with any amount of luggage.
Not sure about that.No they won't,........not for a vacation with any amount of luggage.
Via....sure. But check out what GO has to say about luggage. I was responding to YTZ saying folks would grab a GO train/Bus to Union instead of driving to Pearson.I saw lots of people dragging bags to ride VIA from Quebec to Ottawa/Montreal last March break, so I suspect you may not be entirely correct.
