Which likley means the decision is already made and it's about messaging and timing now.

That's a fair assumption, if not that, they are in final stages to crossing the 't's' and dotting the 'i's'. I'm sure that the embedded CDN crew members over the last few weeks have been extensively debriefed for their observations and comments.Which likley means the decision is already made and it's about messaging and timing now.
Orphaned, in what sense?Looks like official confirmation that SK is giving nukes.
Which means the KSS III is an orphaned design.
Buyer bewar, future developments and upgrades are on your dime
I'm not following your logic. They are building the KSS III, and starting development on a nuke boat. They will operate their KSS IIIs, likely for decades, just like Canada would if they bought them.Looks like official confirmation that SK is giving nukes.

Could be a natural transition down the road for us to move from these subs (if we select them) over to the SK nuc boats.Orphaned, in what sense?
If we (hypothetically- I have no inside knowledge) opt for the KSS III and buy 12, along with the ones the ROKN have, this would still make it one of the largest class of DE subs produced in modern times.
With no details provided is it wrong to assume this is just Germany throwing numbers at the wall and seeing what gets peoples attention.A little bit of coverage of what is on offer if we go with TKMS.
German submarine bid promises Canada $86B economic boost and tens of thousands of jobs
Back of the napkin math - for what its worth - the article quotes approx. 655,000 'job years' over the lifespan of the project. If we apply that number against the 12 subs, that's approx. 54,000 'job years' per sub. Apply that over a 25yr lifespan, that's 2,180 'job years' for sub.A little bit of coverage of what is on offer if we go with TKMS.

SK certainly seems to be doing a better public job of laying out their pitch. With no details provided is it wrong to assume this is just Germany throwing numbers at the wall and seeing what gets peoples attention.

Of note, the TKMS CEO said at CANSEC they now are able to supply 4 x Type 212CDs to Canada by 2036, by offering up boats that were previously set aside for Germany and Norway. That to me hints at a level of desperation by the Germans.Never doubt the fetish Canadians have for all things European though.
While I am solidly in the SK side, I'm not counting out the Germans.

of note is the fact that the CBC pushed the cash benefits and person years for the 212CD along with the sustaining facilities to be built without ever drawing the comparison to Korea who from what I have read are proposing identical facilities AND buying steel from Algoma to boot. A little push perhaps from inside government to sway the public in favour of the German proposal?Of note, the TKMS CEO said at CANSEC they now are able to supply 4 x Type 212CDs to Canada by 2036, by offering up boats that were previously set aside for Germany and Norway. I’d be all in on them even if they didn’t have VLS…but that’s a nice capability to have on a long range underwater boat…But I'm biased towards SK and ready to go all in on them.
