“Mark and his family were not on board at the time of the incident. As the Coast Guard noted, the boat was not in distress, and by the time the crew reviewed the Coast Guard contact on a different radio channel from the one they were operating on, the assist was already underway. We’re grateful all parties are safe.”

But how about being so rich you don't just have a superyacht, you also have your own AOR/JSS to support it... Boss.

I was sailing my boat from Nanaimo to Deep Bay and heard a distress call of a boat on fire. It was 5 miles away and I was limited to 7 knots but I responded anyway. Thankfully an actual fast rescue craft also responded and I was relieved of my responsibility. That's how you do it.

My favourite was when the Götheborg (a reproduction tall ship) responded to a distress call in 2023. Can only imagine what the people being rescued felt.

Not if it puts you in danger or not equipped to do so. I can see the owners yacht not responding for security reason if the owners is onboard, but they could have had their support vessel respond.
