CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

They don't, but it can inflame tensions between the feds and the provinces at a time when we need a more united approach.
Feds give the provinces a 100% transfer of the value of the excise tax they charge US importers on the exports South…literally more money that they were making before. Let’s see how much the provinces don’t like that. In the case of petroleum from Alberta, it will actually serve to remediate the discount that the U.S. has forced Alberta’s WCS to be sold at, as well as provide Alberta more revenue than they had with the systemic reduction of oil royalties starting back with Ralph Klein and carrying through to current times.

He's already ruled out any further concessions on Canada's part, so does he mean retaliation? A bribe? Waiting the admin out?

Because 2 out of those 3 have been tried or currently being played out.

Is Poilievre just playing politics or has he genuinely not come to terms with the fact that the US isn't negotiating in good faith, nor really trustworthy that they'll stick by any deal we might make.

Poilievre knows those things but he also knows he has a close to zero chance of ever having to be in the hot seat across from Trump. That affords him that beautiful privilege the opposition sometimes has of knowing they can say just about anything and will not have to actually show receipts.

He could walk downtown in Shawinigan and dump a extra-grand poutine from Chez Potato King right in the middle of rue Notre Dame, and the constituents of Battle River - Crowfoot would still vote for him…
