The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

They are seeing opportunity. Other than not getting anything, their other fear is getting a small order but still being forced to do assembly in Canada.

Saab also relatively recently unveiled a CCA, so I'm wondering if they are hoping to get us into Gripens and partner on CCAs.

Zelenskyy is coming to Canada next week.
Wonder if there will be some SAAB Gripen, Canada/Ukraine production/procurement announcement while he’s here.

An announcement that we're going with 65 F-35's and 65 Gripens (and building more for the Ukrainians) with Zelenskyy there would sure be something.

EDIT: Such an announcement would also serve as a bonus to see if Trump decides to torpedo the defense industry in the US by responding with a "oh no you don't" before the midterms and with 2 years left in his own term.

Though more realistically if anything gets announced it'll probably be related to CDPSC.

Saab - getting desperate or getting fed up with us or seeing a chance to move things towards a conclusion - you can decide for yourself.

Saab intensifies pitch to sell Gripen jets to Canada, promising assortment of benefits

Desperate, the Gripen needs a win from a G7 country.

IMHO thats not enough.

RCAF pilot training capacity is a huge issue.

Indeed, CAF training capacity is a huge issue. The CAF's role is not merely to be ready for today, but to have capacity for the future. The training system by design should be able to accommodate multiples of the current demand without augmentation from the fleet / field force / flying squadrons.

As with equipment and materiel, the CAF has not invested sufficiently in its personnel supply chain systems.
