Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

What we've 'earned' is the right to not 'be forgotten' when the rebuild comes. I can see ALOT of potential infrastructure needs that Canada can cover off once the guns falls silent. Play the long game, be more like China in strat thinking and less like a WH Goldfish.
Not to mention energy, a few CANDU reactors perhaps to replace the old soviet ones?

Was American, decisions made before 47 took power. Now it being in a blind trust it can be composed of anything. Plus even if he was able to trade now, who is to say investing American is how he would go.
No. That's not even close to how a blind trust works.

It is absolutely unheard of for a trustee to liquidate an entire portfolio. A trustee has to work in the owner's best interests and follow any instructions, like what to reinvest in, what prices to buy or sell it, any industries to buy or avoid. A portfolio in a blind trust will come out largely the same as it went in.

It's also not a mind wipe, he still knows what he put in.

A blind trust, set up properly, is exactly that. Blind! The trustee, for the duration of the "blind" portion is not in touch with the actual owner in any way form or shape, so doesn't know what will be decide ahead of anyone else.. Moreover, to keep it "blind" from the owner, they normally "switch" the major holdings that would clearly be known to the holder in the first few months months of the blind trust so that, by switching them to something else, the owner would now not know what is in his portfolio. That's how a blind trust is supposed to work. And in Canada, the Ethics Commissioner is supposed to check that all that is being done.

There could be ways to 'figure things out' I would assume if one really, truly wanted to know.

Some of this are assumptions and some are facts. The Trustee must provide quarterly a 'performance' report on the assets being managed.

That could be something as basic as a 1 liner - Jan 1, 2026 - Market Value = XXX$ - March 31, 2026 - Market Value = XXX$ and the Gain/Loss = XXX$ or (+/-) XX.XX%

In that scenario its pretty much impossible to know anything about your holdings.

But, if the quarter statements lists out all the dividends paid each quarter at the individual security holding level, then it could be possible to get a better sense of what is actually held, especially if they list the dividend amount for each security or the date that the dividend was paid on.

A person could take the time to research the date specifically. If it says, dividend paid on March 12, 2026 and the amount was 429.94$, you could run a query on all the securities that paid a dividend on that date and then take the amount of each dividend and divide it onto the amount of 429.94$ until you get a 'round number'. So if Microsoft pays a dividend on Mar 12, 2026 for 4.2994$/share. That dividend divided into 429.94$ equals 100. So, he knows now that he holds 100 shares of Microsoft.

If only the date of the dividend paid is on the quarter performance statement, against March 12, 2026, someone could check to see which securities paid a dividend on that date. It could be 1 security or it could be 35. Reviewing the 35 would bring that number lower (some securities would just not be appropriate based on the 'KYC' criteria.

I haven't read about this anywhere. I feel like that would dissuade a lot of people from doing a blind trust, and in practice most of the stocks are just left alone.

If the US was serious about vastly reducing its illegal immigrants problem they should be going after those that employ them and give them the belief that they have a shot at the American dream.
But . . . but, think about the poor politicians and millionaires and their neglected pools, lawns and children.

There may be a meeting between PMMC and Macron happening on Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, after the EU trip/speech and just before the House returns.

According to the article it would also be the first ever visit by a Canadian PM.

Jivani is really touching the stove now. I wouldn't be surprised if the timer for him getting booted from caucus hasn't started ticking down.

I'm sure Vance has a nice warm couch waiting for him to crash on.

[CBC]As Poilievre tours U.S., Conservative MP bemoans lack of 'alternative to the Liberals'

EDIT: And whatever it is he thinks he's doing, it's not helping him. I'd even say he might be trying a hailmary and go for the leadership spot to save himself from his sinking ship.

Nobody operates a blind trust like that. Selling off assets for no rhyme or reason is not working in the owner's best interests and almost certainly goes against the instructions they left.

A blind trust is basically caretaker mode and almost always comes out mostly the same as it went in.

What you're suggesting can be accomplished much easier by simply liquidating the entire portfolio and putting everything in a mutual fund.

I just watched the full interview on CNBC this morning, just under 9mins.

Speaking openly and frankly - and giving credit where credit is due - PP did a huge favour for Carney and for Canada. He clearly laid out that Canadians are 'wounded' by what Trump has done to us and called for us to go back to the table and go back to tariff free trade between us. He also did a solid job of informing the panelists and US audience that we are firmly moving ahead with diversifying our trade away from the US and on our own terms.

Personally, I'd like to see Carney publicly acknowledge and 'thank' PP for what he said. I believe that PP deserves this. PP showed the Americans that we are 'united' in this fight and that they can't divide us on this issue. If any of Trump's Cabinet watched this whole interview they may need to be re-thinking their path forward, because honestly PP did a great job in informing the US viewers that they are in the wrong on this.

He needs to put the “Blame Canada” and separatist “influencers”, including the likes of Jivani, in their place. They are anchors keeping him and the party down. I fear that they now have more power than him in the party though.

Oh I agree, they need to be purged. There very well could be a division forming, or already existing, within the party that PP is trying to manage.

That’s what happens when you try to get the PPC voters rather than a broader chunk of the electorate. I’d feel sorry for him if he hadn’t invited them into the tent in the first place.

Unlike those to my left I don't believe he would accept a bad deal, so I imagine we'd be pretty much right where we are.

I do believe however that diversification attempts would be a lot harder for him, if they were made at all.

I believe he would have happily sacrificed Ontario and Quebec industrial jobs to just get more oil and gas sales to the US. Kinda what happened under Harper.

This is really why some of the strongest "Elbows up" response is in those provinces. They are trying protect to the few manufacturing jobs left. And politicians who don't sound sympathetic to this are going to get pummelled in the polls. Poilievre is finally starting to sound like he gets this.
