The Rivers were to replace all the capabilities inherent in the tribals and frigates. 9 is the minimum be able to retire the frigates.

After that either keep building Rivers or switch to a new class. We're 10 years away from even having that conversation.

Naval warfare is in flux right now, trying to digest and determine the impact and the solutions for the impact of aerial and surface drones. Sort of like the introduction of torpedo boats and aircraft did. I don't think any navy has successfully grappled with the change in the Littoral fight that has happened.

They are aiming for 18 operational submarines and have started an ambitious SSN/ SSGN program. It all seems to be mostly aimed at intimidating Israel.

I've been to Akzaz Turkey a few times in my life.

Their inflation rate has been absolutely nuts for years and years now.

For example, in 2000 it was 1 USD to .62 Turkish Lira (the 'old' version), in 2010 it was 1 USD to 1.51 Turkish Lira and in 2025 it was 1 USD to 39.57 Turkish Lira -

In 2000, Turkey redenominated their currency - dropping 6 zeros!!! to introduce the new Turkish Lira - prior to this 1 USD was worth 620,000 Turkish Lira........So back in 2000, 1,700$ USD would have made you a Turkish Billionaire LOL!

Yes they have economic issues. Inflation peaked in 2024 at 75%!!!!
And the bank interest rate was close to 60%!!!

They have some sort of plan to wind their inflation down to single digits, looking at how President Milei has done thy for Argentina. But I doubt they’ll drop their military build up.
