If dry stream is "never go to sea" then the CAF needs to reign in the RCN - the technical term for a MARS / NWO who never goes to sea is a civilian, and those positions need to be appropriately changed.

The wet and dry list has existed since I joined, it was always unofficial and informal, though recognized by leadership out loud eventually (2007 approx). Now its formalized in a different way.

You can join the Staff officer stream at any point in time in the new org . And as far as "never go to sea" that's not entirely true. They deploy where the operations staff are required, as part of a task group commanders team, overseas with allied navies, in a deployed HQ and so on. Just won't be permanent positions for them on ship. More like air det. This is a trained career path with its own career development stream. These are the watch officers ashore, the admirals operational planning staff, UXV's detachments, harbour security, NTOG, Clearance Divers, and a whole host of other things.

Frankly civilians can't do this job.

Its actually not required. And too many are turning down the opportunity. It was a major topic of discussion on our most recent Log symposium, from their occupation management side.

So they are choosing to never get promoted. Unless Log is waiving that requirement now for Sea Log. Well that's a thing I guess.

Seems so. I know a LCdr with absolutely zero time posted to a ship.

Lots of people want that 8-4 with out any of the Navy bits it seems.

One must become comfortable with the level they have risen too. Its a hard concept for many to grasp.
