There is no such thing as “Joint” in the CAF. well maybe a little bit with the RCAF’s dark blue and green subunits. But the wider CAF being joint? Zilch.

Not based on what I've heard

[Humphrey Bogart]

He abided by the laws of the land, and in keeping with his heritage as a French-Candian, most of whom were decidedlhy against conscription.

Calling thise people is no different than calling them a Fobbit, and equally puerile

Regardless of his views, he still missed the show. He didn't step up when he could have. Considering almost 52% of fighting age males in Canada enlisted during WW2, with roughly 90% being volunteers (100% of the RCN and RCAF were volunteers), it's sort of pathetic that he was elected as a PM.

Maybe that's just my clouded view having hailed from a family of United Empire Loyalists where men were expected to step up if able and do what was required.

If its a NWO, then it's only a FO. No need for GO.

No such sentiment existed in French Canadian at the time of WWII, The much lesser percentage of them who joined as volunteer did so much more as away to escape the closed Catholic controlled society in which they lived and see the world than as a result of any "imperial" feelings. The other ones couldn't care less about the war ... that is until the Germans started sinking ships in the Gulf of St Lawrence in May of 1942 which created a certain uptick in volunteers.

Similar to WW1:

Divided At Home, United In Battle

Borden led a deeply divided country whose citizens had reacted to the war news and the endless casualty lists in varying ways. In French-speaking areas of Quebec the war had never seemed of much importance and few young men had volunteered. The exploits of the one French-Canadian battalion, the 22nd, were featured in the daily newspapers, but public opinion remained generally indifferent or hostile to pleas for new recruits. Henri Bourassa and other nationalist leaders demanded redress from the ‘Boche’ of Ontario, where French-language schools had been abolished, but there is no evidence that a reversal of this policy would have altered French-Canadian attitudes towards the war. The Canadian victory at Vimy had no discernable nation-building impact in Quebec.

The situation was very different in most English-speaking communities. Hundreds of thousands of young men had joined and tens of thousands had been killed or wounded. Winning the war, thereby justifying these sacrifices, was a shared goal which few challenged. When the pool of able-bodied volunteers dried up in late 1916, public opinion favoured conscription long before Borden announced its introduction.

Divided At Home, United In Battle

While the Canadian Corps fought the battles of Vimy Ridge, Hill 70 and Passchendaele, Canadians on the home front were focused on the issue of conscription for overseas service. There is much to be…
