Regardless of his views, he still missed the show. He didn't step up when he could have. Considering almost 52% of fighting age males in Canada enlisted during WW2, with roughly 90% being volunteers (100% of the RCN and RCAF were volunteers), it's sort of pathetic that he was elected as a PM.

Maybe that's just my clouded view having hailed from a family of United Empire Loyalists where men were expected to step up if able and do what was required.

If its a NWO, then it's only a FO. No need for GO.

No such sentiment existed in French Canadian at the time of WWII, The much lesser percentage of them who joined as volunteer did so much more as away to escape the closed Catholic controlled society in which they lived and see the world than as a result of any "imperial" feelings. The other ones couldn't care less about the war ... that is until the Germans started sinking ships in the Gulf of St Lawrence in May of 1942 which created a certain uptick in volunteers.
