God damn them all! They’d cruise the sea for Russian diesel…

Maritime law has a lot of pretty whacky things still fully on the books from centuries ago, so this might actually be comparatively fine.I support this, but there might be a few concerns with international law.

You must be new here
So anyone feel like starting a GoFundme page ?That's the least of would-be privateers' worries.
Their main worry is that when they start going after merchant shipping of a nation, that nation may sink, burn, or take them in return. Historically a privateer might command a vessel just qualifying as a fifth or sixth rate, usually less. Few private owners could afford to outfit a vessel to fight modern frigates, let alone stand the outright loss of the vessel.
I'm curious to see if any policy changes come from this.
or perhaps he was reluctant to strike back BECAUSE they were 12 year olds until after they got a couple of telling strikes in. Also it appears from the article that the woman was the one who brought him down with the boys getting a couple of blows in while he was down. Any guesses as to where they struck? No intention of victim-blaming here, and I genuinely hope the individual makes a full recovery.
That said, unless those 12-year-olds are complete physical outliers, if you're an able-bodied adult being beaten by children of that age, it may be worth taking a hard look at your physical preparedness. Joining a gym, learning some basic self-defence, or taking up a combat sport such as MMA, boxing, or jiu-jitsu could be worthwhile.

As an adult you are going to be held to a higher standard of reasonable force than the kids. That being said I had a Navy League Cadet of 11 that wore size 13 boots. Thankfully his mom was still bigger and tougher than him.or perhaps he was reluctant to strike back BECAUSE they were 12 year olds until after they got a couple of telling strikes in. Provides a relatable face for the CAF to communities that (looking at the first-gen crowd) might not start out trusting or having much time for national militaries based on experiences in The Old Country. When I was XO at HMCS Queen in Regina, we had a sea cadet and an army cadet corps parading in our building. Just my observation, but at least 50% of the kids were first generation Canadians. If nothing else, these kids were exposed to an important part of the Canadian establishment and the way the world works within Canada. I think that alone shows the benefit of the program.
ORIOLE would be a perfectly acceptable cadet training vessel, and would provide a really solid centre of gravity for Sea Cadets. Her maintenance and crewing might also force CJCR to eyeball other spending choices re: full time staff. If you are going to have a sail training vessel, do it right. Something bigger, steel hull, 120-140', able to carry more people and go further and is brigantine rigged.
There's nothing wrong with ORIOLE that a sinkex wouldn't solve.
Don't worry, I'm equally obsessed with the abolition of the military colleges as degree granting institutions, the elimination of the Skyhawks and the abolition of the Snowbirds.I share your views on priorities, and when push comes to shove, sacred cows sometimes have to be sacrificed.
But, my friend, you seem to have developed an unhealthy obsession with the destruction of ORIOLE.
