I guess the US won't be needing us to re-up in 2011 then...  I think the strongly worded letters would be best sent by US servicemen in Kandahar who will have to fill the gap when CF personnel are "kicking back"

There is no way the Americans didn't already know the score.  Nothing ever gets decided at summits - it just gets admitted to.

If RC's presence in Afstan is separately managed from "English" CBC then I would hold fire on eCBC - after all you don't want to lose Mercer who has been one of the best supporters (in terms of reach to the ordinary punter) of the CF's mission.  Concentrate on the organisation that did wrong...

Isn't the problem that the US SF don't answer to ISAF command but are a separate operation?  Therefore the ISAFers get the blame when USSF call in airstrikes? It's looking likely that the British are going to be leaving southern Iraq soon.  I would expect to see some more commitment to the Iraq...

How much did we pay upfront though?  It *is* a good time to be paying, with the USD in the tank and not likely to climb soon.
