Continental Defence Corvette

And here's as fine a bit of Irish as I have had the good pleasure of seeing in a while....

Slainte mhor, micks.

I am sure the Royal Navy appreciates the privilege.
Wow, surprised that they didn’t ask the PLO or Hamas to patrol their waters for them…..

Edit- saying this a bit tongue in cheek, but just a bit.

The Irish are a decidely non-expeditionary navy. They work even closer to home than our Coast Guard.

We used to do exchanges with them, and Halifax has has visits from Irish Naval Vessels.

Yes they generally have a more domestic tasking; but they have deployed to the Mediterranean.

The Irish will hopefully, bring back these exchanges, and bring adequate supplies of libations....

I knew a young officer who went over for 6 - 8 months and loved it. She said their sailing is tough though, small ships and rough seas.

Anyone who has sailed around Ireland knows it can be a rough patch of water.

For scale this about the largest ship in the Irish navy. I walked by this on the way to the office a couple of times this past week, it is not large.

That ship is there strictly to keep the locals and tourists in line when they find out that a pint of the black now runs them close to 12 Euro in Temple Bar.

Your problem is you went to Temple Bar. Follow me to Tallaght or Bray! Now that's a time.
You don't even need to risk your health in the wilds of Tallaght. Just cross to the south side of Westmorland Street and the price drops to around €8. Actually there is even a decent pub, The Ferryman, almost immediately to the right of that ship.

What's a night of pints without a little risk ? lol

Cusacks is also great and close to Croke Park.

The Ferryman has the charm of being between my office and my bus home. So it works for a cheeky pint. Also, it has the level of atmosphere I appreciate. Floors are a bit sticky, but you never feel your life is at risk. Now in fairness, I did once see Jeff Bezos in there, so your milage may vary.

Southie is NOT what it once was when I lived there 25yrs ago. Same with Charlestown - aka - Chucktown. End of an era.

Though South Street Diner is still around from when I used to order lunch from it between '96-'00.

Arafura Class offshore patrol vessels (OPV) are expected to carry out constabulary missions, maritime patrol and response duties alongside Australian Border Force vessels, other Australian Defence Force units and regional partners.

“The OPV program was originally a 12-vessel, off-the-shelf purchase with an integrated forward gun. Over the last few years that program has changed in scope,” VADM Hammond said.

“It has been reduced as a result of the Independent Assessment Team surface combatant review down to a program of six ships

“The armament options now include a mix of uncrewed systems. So we are looking at the Arafura Class as being a platform that will integrate uncrewed surface systems and uncrewed air systems in the future. A number of different options is underway, including potential for main armament, which remains under consideration.

“We anticipate that the offshore patrol vessel is the ideal platform to leverage the full potential of uncrewed systems as part of an integrated capability … The Arafura Class has three sea boat launch positions – port, starboard, over the side – in addition to a stern launch and recovery capability and a very large flight deck.

“The function they were intended to perform and that which they will perform is border work, where the armaments are less relevant to the type of task. But importantly, the range and sea-keeping capability of those vessels enables the work to be done further offshore, sparing some of the surface combatants, the frigates and other vessels, which otherwise would perform that work.”
