We used to do exchanges with them, and Halifax has has visits from Irish Naval Vessels.

Yes they generally have a more domestic tasking; but they have deployed to the Mediterranean.

I knew a young officer who went over for 6 - 8 months and loved it. She said their sailing is tough though, small ships and rough seas.

Anyone who has sailed around Ireland knows it can be a rough patch of water.

For scale this about the largest ship in the Irish navy. I walked by this on the way to the office a couple of times this past week, it is not large.

Nope, its a true patrol ship.

A CPF is 134m Long and roughly 4700 tons. The Samuel Beckett Class is 90m Long and roughly 2200tons.

You don't even need to risk your health in the wilds of Tallaght. Just cross to the south side of Westmorland Street and the price drops to around €8. Actually there is even a decent pub, The Ferryman, almost immediately to the right of that ship.

The Ferryman has the charm of being between my office and my bus home. So it works for a cheeky pint. Also, it has the level of atmosphere I appreciate. Floors are a bit sticky, but you never feel your life is at risk. Now in fairness, I did once see Jeff Bezos in there, so your milage may vary.

Heading to Boston at the end of Mar for some old boys rugby. I expect we will be disappearing into Southie tout suite lol Ruggers and Sailors... We always go where we shouldn't lol.

Southie is NOT what it once was when I lived there 25yrs ago. Same with Charlestown - aka - Chucktown. End of an era.
