As a US Taxpayer, I would want those 4B back if Canada doesn’t go all in on F-35, and ensure that nothing for F-35 is made in Canada.

Canada has also been a contributor under the technology development program, and is a member under the PSFD. So even with a reduced purchase Canada is a program participant.

IIRC the ‘wealth’ was spread around as to the expected purchase quantity.

That would be a great way to ensure even less of Canada's money goes south in the future.

I'm sure LM is just hoping this all blows over, and we go back to normal in a few years. Making it worse now would just ensure things would never go back to how they were.

I think the old plan of 65 is pretty much a done deal, even if a split fleet is chosen in the end.

So the money Canada received for participating in the F35 program is reimbursed and whatever Canadian widgets are in the 1300+ jets produced thus far are returned?

Workshare was to be based on initial investment and support not aircraft orders I thought(case in point Japan wasn't a partner but is the largest F35 purchaser outside the U.S. yet it's work share reflects it FMS status).

At this point I don't think the US Aerospace industry could take over the contracts. MTU in Vancouver had a contract to do all of a particular type of jet engine for the USAF, the USAF pulled the contract and gave it to a company in the US. Turns out they had none of the specialized tools or trained workers to meet the contract. They even begged MTU to give them the tooling, MTU said go pound sand. Eventually the USAF had to come back to MTU, cap in hand begging them to slot engines in when they could. They went from a first priority customer to one at the back of the line.

So youd want those companies to stop making parts and have the follow on delays to producing F35s? And youd want some kind of mechanism to have that money pulled out of companies for services rendered ? Interesting legal precedent.

How about we ask for the US's half for the Gordie Howe Bridge and call it even.

Most of those industrial offsets were specialized Canadian Companies who made things others did not and or could not.
