Suppose Poilievre is fired tomorrow, then what? Whatever candidate steps up is going to have 3 years of character attacks, being compared to trump, and held to a much higher bar than Carney.

Who cares if Liberal supporters spend the next 3 years salivating over weekly polls watching the CPC drop.

It's not like a new party leader can force the LPC to start being transparent. Their supporters certainly aren't going to. At least with Poilievre playing attack dog there's an attempt at accountability.

It's not like a new party leader can force the LPC to start being transparent. Their supporters certainly aren't going to. At least with Poilievre playing attack dog there's an attempt at accountability.

But if the electorate don't view you as a holding them accountable, or as a government in waiting there is a problem. The messaging seems to indicate they are not doing a good job of it, otherwise they woukd likely be trending up not down. Part of their problem is they have MPs spreading misinformation on government bills rsther that actual critical analysis. You dont hold government accountable making things up.

But it is “unknown” if he ever went to class, records show.

Instead, he helped Bishnoi expand his criminal organization into Canada, allegedly instigating high-profile murders, a political assassination and an extortion crisis.

A classified intelligence report obtained by Global News reveals the Bishnoi gang’s Canadian franchise has relied heavily on Indian youths who, like Brar, entered the country on student visas.

Written by the Canada Border Services Agency, the report cites the gang’s “growing operational presence in Canada” and “demonstrated use of Canada’s immigration programs for criminal purposes.”

It would be interesting.

I suspect nothing. A new poor sod of a CPC leader would be the target of the same people and media outlets.

There is a deep personal dislike for PP in this country. Just listen to any curse of politics podcast, its absolutely awful the things they say about him. I agree he should go, but I don't understand the personal hate people have for him. He's literally done nothing, nothing at all.

Closed door debates still means it happens, bills still need to pass 3 readings and committee, I havent seen the liberals shut down everything on a single bill to ram it though. Ive also seen the CPC claim committee meetings were shut down when the official schedule shows there was never a meeting in the first place. If they want to demand transparency, they should start with them selves.

The Liberal government is attacking transparency, meanwhile Canadians are too busy worrying about Poilievre to even feign interest.

It's a Liberal majority (obtained through back door deals). Having a dancing Conservative simulacrum of Trudeau with an 80% likability nanos poll won't change anything for the next 3 years.

Canada’s trade numbers delivered a striking contradiction in June: the country recorded its fourth straight merchandise surplus even as a weaker dollar, surging technology imports and a sharp pullback in aluminum shipments complicated the picture. Statistics Canada reported a $3.9-billion goods surplus, with exports and imports both reaching record values. Yet the headline was not simply a story of factories shipping more abroad. Currency conversion lifted Canadian-dollar totals, gold exports surged, energy prices weakened and data-centre equipment poured in from the United States. The result offers evidence that trade helped Canada regain momentum in the second quarter, but it also shows how quickly the balance can shift when a few large categories—gold, oil, autos, aluminum and computers—move at the same time.

Canada Records Its Fourth Consecutive Trade Surplus​

Canada’s merchandise trade surplus widened to $3.9 billion in June from a revised $3.7 billion in May, marking the fourth consecutive month in positive territory. Exports rose 0.4% to a record $77.5 billion, while imports edged up 0.2% to a record $73.6 billion. The surplus was the largest since May 2022 and exceeded the roughly $3-billion result economists surveyed by Reuters had expected.

Those figures make June look like a broad-based win, but the composition matters. Exports increased for a fifth straight month and were 22.8% higher over that period, yet only six of 11 major product sections posted gains. Imports reached a new high even though nine of 11 sections declined, because one category—electronic and electrical equipment—rose enough to outweigh most of the weakness elsewhere. The surplus therefore reflected several unusually large movements rather than uniformly stronger activity across Canada’s full export and import base.

In terms of what Canadians actually care about, the economy, Canada continues to show signs of resilience. And this is in the face of tariffs.
