Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Agree with those making the point that the validity-to-preference for renting (housing) shouldn’t primarily be based on degrading affordability of house ownership. Renting should remain a choice for those whom it suits, but not because house ownership has outstripped household earning and affordability.

Its a question worth asking for certain.

From a context perspective, I'm wondering if he was addressing the 'affordable housing' segment, which means Government intervention and oversight which could mean that the Fed's (and Provinces) are not going to go huge into the subsidized housing marketing and to become major landlord's themselves.

But, any financial planner worth their salt will tell you emphatically that people that 'own' their home over the long run come out leaps and bounds ahead of those who rent, in terms of wealth generation and accumulation.

But it's cheaper of the Feds download housing responsibilities to the municipalities, right?

B.C. cities say they're on the hook for millions for housing, social issues due to senior gov't 'downloading'

Municipalities are trying to quantify how much they say senior governments have passed on to them

B.C. municipalities have long complained senior levels of government have offloaded a medley of costs and responsibilities onto them. Now some cities are trying to quantify how much they’ve taken on — and they’re reporting millions of dollars in “downloaded” costs.

The municipalities say downloading costs can strain local budgets and make it harder for them to pay for core services like roads, parks and community centres as they take on more responsibility for increasingly complex issues historically managed by the provincial and federal governments.

Coquitlam, a Vancouver suburb home to about 150,000 residents, estimated the financial impact of provincial government downloading on the city was $37.6 million from 2021 to 2024, according to a report in November.

especially with the demise of indexed pension plans. The time to rent is well after retirement when that 50,000 (early 70's) has become close to or over one million. Invested wisely it will provide nicely and possibly even help the kids out.

Do you think a guy who makes statements like this:

Will be interested in continuing that trend ?
Only if the piper allows him to dance to that tune. We’ll see what PMMC & Co. let him do.

Also, I’m going to go out on a limb & bet a loonie that anyone who’s served as CEO of an Alberta-owned Crown corporation as recently as 2 years ago is all that close to the left/socialist end of the political spectrum.

His record is out there for everyone to see...

Being conspiratorial about it is a personal choice. Treachery under every stone.
A suspicious mind is a healthy mind.

Do you legitimately think he just randomly checked with the ethics committee if he can do a 1-week vacation for no real reason at all,

or

he's doing something that when it eventually gets brought to light will leave questions about whether it was ethical or not to do? Such as meeting certain people or staying at a 'friends' place.

Or he's meeting with friends in very senior governmental / corporate positions from various parts of Italy and getting it squared away in advance.

Yeah I figured he might be visiting friends who are skookum muckamucks and wanted to make sure everything was ok, and avoid the jackpot Trudeau got into with the Aga Khan.

PMMC clearing stuff with the ethics people first shows way more respect for his office and Canadians in general than his "I didn't know any better" predecessors.

That petition is dumb. Dude’s job is to represent his nation’s interests in Canada and to carry out engagement and diplomacy. He’s doing that job. What we don’t like is the underlying policy and diplomatic approach.

At least through him we get a really good eye into what the administration wants here, through a not-too-thick filter.
Not declaring someone who represents the largest potential threat to your country, actively threatening your sovereignty persona non-grata is dumb.

I think it’s a bit late to kick him out, but the day he made those comments or the day they learned of them he should have been sent packing.

Yeah he might be representing his masters but that doesn’t mean we need to tolerate such disrespect.
