Neither the U.S. nor Canada have officially released the draft agreement or any official minutes of the meetings, so we don’t know. If it was as the U.S. says, I have no doubt that they would have done so in a heartbeat. You believe Carney was playing fast and loose with retracting the team at the last minute. That’s fine. That’s your call to do so. Personally, I believe Lutnick absolutely poisoned the well. I also believe that Lutnick has Peter Navaro on speed dial and those two do Trump’s bidding to set conditions for increasing hybridized economic warfare against Canada to further split the U.S.-Canada win-lose ratio.

I’ll wait to see how the projection holds, particularly if the Sect.338 tariffs and the whatever Section the Jan 2027 50% broad flat-rate tariffs are, do against the bi-partisan backlash building in the U.S. House and Senate as we speak and likely USSC challenges/reductions/strike downs to come.

It seems natural for one to take what supports their opinion, even if it’s a projection vice a measurement, and to concurrently find reason to disbelieve or argue against other results that do not support one’s beliefs or opinions. Projected job losses as yet uncomfirmed justify damnation, but real data showing improvement is to be dismissed…check.

Canadian travellers pulled hundreds of millions of dollars out of the United States in the first part of 2026, according to new data released by Statistics Canada.

The agency’s regular National Travel Survey released Tuesday showed Canadians cut back on trips, average visit length and spending on trips into the United States during the first three months of 2026, when compared to the same period a year prior.

Canadians made nearly 500,000 fewer trips into America and spent about $800 million less on those trips year over year, according to preliminary numbers gathered by Statistics Canada.

The spending total accounts for the total costs of the trips made between January and March, which includes money spent in Canada and on airfare for travel.

The data shows a continued decline in Canadian interest in U.S. travel, even before the latest round of trade tensions between the two countries.

A drop from numbers in 2025...which in and of itself was a drop from 2024.

I like it. Tariffs are secondary, everyday Canadians continue to vote with their wallets.

And he did his patriot duty talking about sticking it to Trump, so voila, easy majority victory. Kory could have been nowhere near and still the same result.

A slight decrease in unemployment over the duration of an economic onslaught and levying of significant tariffs by our largest trading partner is no mean feat. It suggests some solid defence being played.

I can't quantify Angry Kory's contribution, for sure, but the opposition was weak (still, a hat-trick is still a decent result over the longer term), and his backtracking in some areas is a double-edged sword. Boosters'll say "hey, he course adjusts as needed," while haters'll say, "can't stick to a principled stance consistently."

Canada dropped from 5th in "happiness" to 18th over the span of the 10 years Trudeau was PM. It's not surprising some may want to assauge any guilt they might have by looking for someone else (than the LPC) to blame.

That said we can't ignore the anxeity a US president acting like a toddler with a Glock 18 causes, let alone any actual financial impact. Carney just has to point south and he jumps 10 points in the polls.
