Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

To be fair, his boss has done well - electorally, anyway -
Dougie has. But lets be honest, last Ontario election, Dougie could have showed up drunk and babbling incoherently everyday and still secured a majority. The opposition was that weak. And he did his patriot duty talking about sticking it to Trump, so voila, easy majority victory. Kory could have been nowhere near and still the same result.

Before anyone screams victory, jobless rate was around 6.5% in January 2025 and in July 2026 is reported as 6.4%. Where is the "yay us" we should celebrate here?

Other than wanting to try and throw sand in my face, how about looking at the mood of the nation as a whole? It ain't good. But its Trump fault!

Do you hear the Liberals talking about removing any fees, taxes, surcharges, levys, etc on us? Fuck no. All I hear is a bunch more money to be printed up and made available as help for job losses (and businesses) but that is only a stop gap. And it further lowers the value of the Canadian dollar, even when measuring it against itself.

as long as Trump is there and acting like Trump and doing Trump things, this will be the way
why i expect Carney to call and election before the US Presidential in 2028

A slight decrease in unemployment over the duration of an economic onslaught and levying of significant tariffs by our largest trading partner is no mean feat. It suggests some solid defence being played.

I can't quantify Angry Kory's contribution, for sure, but the opposition was weak (still, a hat-trick is still a decent result over the longer term), and his backtracking in some areas is a double-edged sword. Boosters'll say "hey, he course adjusts as needed," while haters'll say, "can't stick to a principled stance consistently."

Better than throwing it in your underwear, amirite?

Canada dropped from 5th in "happiness" to 18th over the span of the 10 years Trudeau was PM. It's not surprising some may want to assauge any guilt they might have by looking for someone else (than the LPC) to blame.

That said we can't ignore the anxeity a US president acting like a toddler with a Glock 18 causes, let alone any actual financial impact. Carney just has to point south and he jumps 10 points in the polls.

Actually no. I suffered a long time corneal abrasion that was painful and lasted for years from sand gravel getting sprayed into my face. Still have a scar on my cornea.

But, no thanks on the underwear either.

Well, I guess its more "far right rage baiting" from Vesper Digital on Trudeau SR, Chretien, Martin and Carney and their businesses relations with China.

GM dropping 1.1 billion into ontario.
"GM Plans" pay attention to the title. YOU in particular are one of the few that jump for joy prematurely at announcements. Wait for the actual results as in deals signed and done.

I missed this yesterday, GM dropping 1.1 billion into ontario. Huge win for ontario manufacturing

Keep in min Stellantis had a shit heap of cash dumped into it as did the other plant in Ontario (with Ford partnering) and those deals still resulted in plant closures

The way I read the G&M article, all of that proposed investment is GM's money, not public.
ISVs and LUV MILCOT will keep GM of Canada busy for a bit at least. Good thing too. We have a long history of commercial platforms converted into military vehicles by these exact companies.

The quantities we buy are less than a month of production.
Maybe three months if we bought strategic materiel depth in the form of wartime Ops Stocks (which would require real-estate, infrastructure, and organizations to support) and full SMP fleets (instead of SMP & MilCOTS mix). Add a LogStock for an extra week of production.

Which does not provide sustained demand for the defence industrial base.

While to me as an individual four thousand pickups sounds like a lot of trucks and a lot of money, on five years replacement cycle that's 800 per year, or about three off the line every working day.

And now a message from our favourite leader of the opposition.

He was the Ying to Trudeau's Yang. He did his job. He should learn and understand his role and step back.
