Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

BYD (to build buses) and Leapmotor have both individually floated the idea of taking over the Stellantis plant to the mayor of Brampton.

Rode a BYD out of Comstock Division.

Soothingly quiet. Low floor. Smooth acceleration. No vibration.

Nothing like the back breaking lift and soundtrack of the New Look "screamers".

I spoke to the Operator. Said he liked it.

Those the same buses that Norway and Denmark had issues with 'kill switch' features through persistent cellular links and foreign sim cards?

They also faired terribly in the TTC's multiyear trial of electric buses in Toronto. If course, New Flyers was the best. This is a study used by most Canadian and US transit authorities to buy electric buses.

Plenty more at the source: TTC eBus Study: Final Results

But I guess if we're desperate for jobs.....

Doing so badly in Toronto is why they are motivated to build a plant. Force Ontario to buy transit buses from them.

How about the actual 227,900 real jobs gained by Canada from when Trump 47 took office in Jan 2025 to the present (Jul 26 - STATSCAN doesn’t have AUG 26 yet)? (20,986,900 Jan 25 > 21,214,800 July 26). Doesn’t Carney get at least a sliver of credit for that?

I did read somewhere that 59% of the numbers were from people who were declaring themselves "self-employed".

My take on what that means:

Self employment implies individual innovation and entrepreneurial engagement, which long term is better for national fortunes than 20,000 more precarious fast food jobs.

HOwever, that also requires national and provincial leadership to step up to support the innovation economy.

I handy send that, HB. Would be interested to learn more about that. 👍🏼 In these times, I’m willing, at least partially, to trust a relatively objective statistics collation agency’s figures, particularly where they are about as close to the statistical equivalent of Linux open source software.

We were both infantry; we’ve already sold our bodies. At this point it’s only a question as to how camera shy we are.
Depends on the regiment… 😉

Disturbingly I suspect that may very well be my pension plan .
As for self respect, don't be silly I work in the security industry that went a very long time ago.

Meanwhile, he's GONE gone.
With six more by-elections to follow, according to the piece linked above, to let all the parties read what tea leaves they will.

So Carney will need to go 3 for 6 to keep a majority or can he go 2 for 6 and still have a majority?

The man is not unbeatable. All the CPC have to do is offer a better option and get off their own proverbial dicks.
Yes, in addition, they need to try and 'own' the centre. They will not win be 'right' or even 'centre-right', they need to carve out a piece to the centre, defend it and then enlarge it. Otherwise they are toast in 2029.

The Conservative Party has become so obsessed with being the perfect conservative party that it has forgotten the first job of a political party: winning elections.

They spent years building the modern Conservative machine around one central mission — defeating Justin Trudeau and dismantling his legacy.

Fair enough. That was a coherent strategy when Trudeau was the opponent.

But Trudeau is gone.

And instead of adapting, Conservatives seem determined to keep fighting his ghost while Mark Carney walks straight through the political opening they've left behind.

Carney is not Justin Trudeau. He is a progressive conservative in many respects: fiscally credible, institutionally respectable, comfortable with business, and perfectly capable of presenting centre-left policies in language that appeals to voters who would never identify as left-wing.

That should be setting off every alarm bell in Conservative headquarters.

Instead, too many Conservatives seem to believe that if they simply become more conservative, Canadians will eventually reward them.
