Yes, in addition, they need to try and 'own' the centre. They will not win be 'right' or even 'centre-right', they need to carve out a piece to the centre, defend it and then enlarge it. Otherwise they are toast in 2029.

The Conservative Party has become so obsessed with being the perfect conservative party that it has forgotten the first job of a political party: winning elections.

They spent years building the modern Conservative machine around one central mission — defeating Justin Trudeau and dismantling his legacy.

Fair enough. That was a coherent strategy when Trudeau was the opponent.

But Trudeau is gone.

And instead of adapting, Conservatives seem determined to keep fighting his ghost while Mark Carney walks straight through the political opening they've left behind.

Carney is not Justin Trudeau. He is a progressive conservative in many respects: fiscally credible, institutionally respectable, comfortable with business, and perfectly capable of presenting centre-left policies in language that appeals to voters who would never identify as left-wing.

That should be setting off every alarm bell in Conservative headquarters.

Instead, too many Conservatives seem to believe that if they simply become more conservative, Canadians will eventually reward them.

IMO, they gave up the centre when Stephen Harper fucked off Peter MacKay with the Great Alliance-PC Sharing Reneg of 2011.

Thats how they lost me. Everything was "everything is broken" not "here is our plan to actually fix things". Its perfectly embodied by thheir last platform document. It was about 40% the size of the Liberal platform and mostly pictures. Trudeau bad is not a plan to govern. Itll be CFP for until they get the illiberal soc cons in check and actually build a plan.

As KLF in BC is finding out in spades, but with a much broader voting coalition than the federal party ever had to work with. Trying to appeal to the small pool of those drawn to the PPC is a weird flex when there are many more potential voters in the middle. But for now, PMMC owns them.
