Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Both. The 120mm Mortar offers the BN Comd an exceptional asset. In terms of weight of fire, and let’s face it the range is significantly more than capable of the needs of the BN depth. The 105mm in the LSCO doesn’t truly offer more range even with the RAP rounds as it’s generally positioned...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

You (and presumably Hellyer earlier) are missing a significant issue that was key in keeping the USMC alive. The fact they are part of the Naval Service, and can be deployed to countries and it not be considered an invasion. The Navy visits places all the time, and there is no fuss, but if...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Payload. No one in their right mind is going to give up a 120mm Mortar BN controlled asset for a 105mm howitzer.

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

Short of an alien invasion what land threat do you see for Canada? Because your domestic defense fixation is really unfathomable.

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

I think it’s a significant leap in that respect. At the time the 6x6 MOWAG Piranha (that the AVGP series was license from) was generally seen as a domestic security vehicle, but the LAV-25 with the USMC brought the 8x8 LAV 2.0 to the forefront as an expeditionary combat vehicle. There are a...

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

The issue with that is then you really need the same equipment and doctrine. I suspect the Light Infantry Regiment will slot into 11th Airborne, as it’s ‘missing’ Brigade, and the equipment for that is fairly similar. The same way CAST and AMF(L) worked well. The Mech side is totally...

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

There is a rub. The size, equipment limitations and geographic positioning of the Canadian Army doesn’t lend itself to the easy of IT and CT requirements for mixed BN’s like it does down here. Forward Deployment should never be done in less than Bde size, as it is realistically the lowest...

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

I think @Kirkhill was meaning for air defense/counter UAS not for the cyber security side of the link that he posted with the National Guard. I would agree with you for cyber security. They don’t need to be green blue, dark, blue, suited military personnel, but for the kinetic effect side of...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

That would be a logical Canadianization. Instead of the British inspired model adopted. Or one could have Canadian bastardized the American model Gold Bar: 2LT Silver Bar: 1LT Doubled silver Bar: Captain Gold Maple Leaf: Major Silver Maple Leaf: Lt Col Silver Canadian Goose: Col...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Cost or price… Unit costs on a number of components have dropped, while others have risen, and frankly the big determinant of price is in the volume one buys. Several rounds have gotten cheaper to acquire in US Army volumes of purchasing. Generally though you are correct as the supply/...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I am obviously only familiar with USA Hockey, but in talking to Canadian coaches at tournaments, it seems the systems are pretty similar. Down here: All Over 18 personnel (be it players, coaches, managers, officials etc) Background Screening: done every 2 years (this can be waived if you are a...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

So I will offer a contrary view -- want to coach - sign up and do the courses. The rules are in place to ensure everyone safety. Personally if there are 4 others on the ice, the fifth isn't needed, you can only have so many cooks... Also only 4 coaches are allowed on the bench for games...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

TBFH I don't understand why the scope of the project wasn't solely to get a new uniform (jacket, shirt, and pants). While the brown boots look good, I am not sure why there needed to be separate colors for Officers/CWO's and the others. Yes the white vinyl belt was a travesty - so pick a...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Reminds me of the GI Joe APC toy from the 80's. I would prefer 8 wheels - I'm allergic to the 6x6's after the AVGP series. Frankly I go back to the LAV 2.0 Bison as being the optimal medium wheeled armored vehicle (MWAV for lack of a better term). It had a rear ramp (key performance...

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Yes and now 120mm turreted options exist as well as RAP rounds. Plus 105mm and 155mm Arty guns at Div (and previously a BN at Bde) You can’t easily dismount the RWS weapons on a Stryker. The Mortar Platoons have dismounted 81mm Mortars for when one needs to walk away from the Stryker.

Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

120mm Mortar Stryker exists. Bigger payload than the 105mm and ATGM Strykers also exist.
